Cristiano Ronaldo has opened up on the heartbreaking death of his son Angel and how his children asked “where’s the other baby?” after he passed away.
The footballer, 37, and his partner Georgina Rodriguez, 28, faced tragedy in April this year after one of their newborn twins died shortly after birth.
The other twin, a girl, survived, and Georgina revealed in May that their baby girl is called Bella Esmeralda.
The couple already share daughter Alana, three, while Cristiano also has son Cristiano Jnr, 12, and twins Eva and Mateo, four.
Opening up to Piers Morgan on TalkTV, Cristiano spoke on the aftermath of the tragedy, sharing that his older children questioned where the “other baby” was when the couple arrived home.
Cristiano shared: “In the beginning, Geo [is] arriving home and the kids start to say where's the other baby? Where's the other baby?”
According to the footballer, he told his eldest son the sad news first before telling the younger children, saying: “Of course [with] Cristiano, I had a conversation with him in the day, because he's 12 years old, he knows, understands everything, and I had a nice conversation with him.
"We cried together in his bedroom and explained and it's kind of – he doesn't understand, he does understand, but in same way he was a little bit confused.
“The other ones in the beginning, on the table, the kids start to say 'Mom where is the other baby bla bla bla – and you in the beginning they start to say because, you know, she had a little bit of a belly because they had two, it's a hard process.
“And after one week I say, 'Let's be up front and let's be honest with the kids, let's say that, Angel, which is the name, they go to the Heaven'.”
Announcing the death of their son in April, the couple wrote in a joint statement: "It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce that our baby boy has passed away.
"It is the greatest pain that any parents can feel. Only the birth of our baby girl gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness.
"We would like to thank the doctors and nurses for all their expert care and support.
"We are all devastated at this loss and we kindly ask for privacy at this very difficult time.
"Our baby boy, you are our angel. We will always love you."
It's believed that the couple have been dating since 2016, after the footballer met Georgina in a Gucci store, where she worked as a sales assistant.
Georgina previously described the encounter as "love at first sight", with the couple becoming infatuated with one another after their initial meeting.
