Hilary Duff recalls deep love for tragic Aaron Carter after he was found dead in the bath at 34

Hilary Duff has recalled the "deep love" she felt for ex-boyfriend Aaron Carter after the singer’s tragic death aged just 34.

Aaron, the brother of Backstreet Boys singer Nick Carter, was found “dead in his bathtub” this weekend at his home in Lancaster, California.

The sad news sparked countless tributes, with Hilary, 35, taking to Instagram to share some thoughts.

The mum of three wrote: “For Aaron — I'm deeply sorry that life was so hard for you and that you had to struggle in-front of the whole world.

“You had a charm that was absolutely effervescent … boy did my teenage self love you deeply. Sending love to your family at this time. Rest easy.”

Many fans shared their condolences in the comments, with one penning: “I was literally thinking about the Lizzie McGuire episode where Aaron Carter was on.”

Another wrote: “I’m sorry for the loss of someone you were once close with. It’s still hard no matter how much time had passed.”

“I’m heartbroken for him, he was a kid that was surrounded by the worst people, he deserved better, he is finally free,” a third wrote.

Hilary and former child star Aaron had dated in 2001, with the latter even appearing on the former’s Disney channel show, and broke up several times before finally separating in 2003.

The news of his death broke on Saturday, with reports a house sitter found Aaron's body and called 911 at around 11am on Saturday, with homicide detectives later saying there was no sign or evidence of foul play.

A representative said: "Right now it's a really bad time, we're trying to figure out what happened and what the cause of it was.

"We're just as upset as everyone and hope that fans can give thoughts and prayers to his family."

New Kids On The Block also released a statement on Twitter following the news that read: “We are shocked and saddened about the sudden passing of Aaron Carter. Sending prayers to the Carter family. Rest in peace, Aaron.”

The mother of Aaron’s young son Prince, Melanie Martin, also commented on the sad news via TikTok, before releasing a statement later that day where she said: “My fiancé Aaron Carter has passed away. I love Aaron with all my heart and it’s going to be a journey to raise a son without a father.

“Please respect the privacy of my family as we come to terms with the loss of someone we love greatly. We are still in the process of accepting this unfortunate reality. Your thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated.”

Plastic Martyr, a transgender actress and model from the US, also posted a loving tribute to her friend, revealing that Aaron was always a “genuine friend.”

She said: “Aaron Carter was one of the first friends I made in LA. He was so supportive through my transition & was always a genuine friend.

“He introduced me to my first acting coach & helped me in more ways that I think he realized. I'll miss you. I wish I could hug you 1 last time. RIP.”
