John Bishop provides update for worried fans after he and wife Melanie ‘flattened’ by coronavirus

John Bishop has told fans he and wife Melanie are getting stronger every day amid his coronavirus battle.

The comedian has vowed to return to work in January once he gets the all clear from doctors following his positive test result.

John revealed his Christmas was totally wrecked after he and his wife were informed they both had Covid-19 before they could tuck into their turkey.

Melanie and John were given their positive test results on Christmas morning – and said the virus had knocked them both for six.

The 54 year old moved to update his fans on twitter and says they are feeling a little bit better with every day that goes by.

"Thank you for all the messages of support regarding my recent positive Covid test," he wrote.

"'I have been overwhelmed and moved by the amount of messages privately and publicly. Every day we are getting a little stronger and I will be back at work in Jan.

"Keep safe and Happy New Year John x'.

John took to Instagram to share a screenshot of his NHS result on Wednesday – and told fans all about the symptoms they have both been suffering with.

The funnyman wrote: "This came through on Christmas Day.

"This is the worst illness I have ever had, debilitating headaches, muscle joint and even skin pain, dizziness, nausea, no appetite, incredibly chronic fatigue."

He added: "My wife and I are fit non-smokers and it's flattened us.

"I know statistics suggest a 99.9% survival rate but that doesn't mean I would with this experience on anyone. Keep safe."

John questioned government changes as they attempted to combat the killer virus just a few months ago.

His post caused some controversy but the star has never failed to adhere to the guidelines.

He grumbled: "Nobody is suggesting Covid-19 is not a significant problem but to change the way we all live and the damage it is doing to our young people.

"I honestly think we need to consider if the choices being made are the right ones.

"It seems risk assessments were made months ago when we knew significantly less than we do now and nothing has changed despite the correlation between infection and illness shifting."
