Kerry Katona revealed she was left 'shaking with sadness' after she discovered she was trending on Twitter following cruel comments about her appearance on ITV’s Tipping Point: Lucky Stars.

And now the 40 year old has hit back at trolls, exclusively telling OK! online that if she wasn’t as strong as she is, their hurtful words could have taken her back to a dark place.

"I didn’t get to see Tipping Point when it was on because I was in a meeting in the evening, but I asked everyone to watch it on my social media and the next thing you know I’m trending on Twitter,” she explained.

“I’ve been in the industry for so long – I’m really strong. But if I wasn’t as strong as what I was and I’d been in a bad place, I could have easily gone and done something stupid or gone back to drugs.”

Kerry added: “Nobody knows what’s going on in someone else’s head. I’m a really strong person, but if that had been ten years ago then God knows what I would have done."

The former Atomic Kitten star had taken to social media to express her sadness at the abuse she received.

Sharing a screenshot of her name trending on Twitter, she wrote: “Wow absolutely shocking!!! Can’t believe I’m trending on tweeter for being slagged off and hated on!!! I raised money for charity and now I’m being hated on!!” [sic]

Kerry then asked the trolls if they had 'learnt nothing' from Caroline Flack’s tragic death in February.

“I’m proud of who I am.. and your horrible shitty vile words won’t chance me for no one!! Take a long hard look in the mirror! Honestly I feel sick that this is the kind of world we’re living in! [sic]

“You should all feel absolutely ashamed and embarrassed of yourselves! I just don’t know what it is that I’ve done so wrong to receive so much hate! I’m literally shaking with sadness… no one knows what one goes through in their own minds and lives! Words hurt! This has really made me feel sad! Real sad.” [sic]

The former I’m A Celebrity winner was then flooded with supportive comments from her followers.
