Gardeners’ World presenter Monty Don, 66, was surprised to find uninvited guests had charged into his garden through the boundary fence today. Luckily, the visitors heeded the horticulturist’s warnings when “politely asked to move on” and no harm was done.
Monty shared a picture with his 952,000 Instagram followers of his verdant back garden this afternoon, with the addition of one unexpected guest posing majestically in the centre of the leafy scene.
Fluffy, four-legged and looking up longingly at the apple trees, a brown cow could clearly be seen standing amongst the shrubbery.
Alongside the picture Monty wrote: “An uninvited visitor to the garden today..
“A couple of cows broke in through the boundary fence.”

The presenter seemed unfazed by the intrusion and took it all in good humour.
“Luckily more interested in the apple trees rather than the borders and leapt the fence when politely asked to move on…” he added. [sic]
Some of Monty’s followers appeared tickled by the post and left some amusing puns in the comment section.
Deby Morris wrote: “Asked to move on or moooove on ?”
“Gives browsing on Instagram a whole new meaning,” added Welsh gardener Adam Jones.
Other people suggested that a pitstop in Monty’s beautiful garden was simply too good to resist.
“Oh dear but I suppose they appreciated a trip to your paradise,” wrote Diane Hawkins.
Maggie Barker also chimed in: “Ah the grass is always greener… & who could resist scrumping apples!”

As a proud gardener recognised for his extensive knowledge of plants and other horticultural methods, it is unsurprising that Monty’s gardens would prove tempting to guests of a bovine persuasion.

As the UK’s leading garden writer and broadcaster, Monty has also created and starred in some acclaimed shows over the years, including Around the World in 80 Gardens, The Secret History of the British Garden and three series of Big Dreams, Small Spaces.
After a long and successful career, his net worth is estimated to be between £1million and £4million.
Recently, the star gave fans a glimpse into a secret garden which has never been shown on Gardeners’ World before.
