The Awkward Gift Meghan Markle Once Gave The Queen

What do you get for someone who has everything? We imagine Meghan Markle asks herself this exact question when it comes to picking a Christmas gift to give to the queen. After all, whatever she gifts Her Majesty must be fit for royalty.

Luckily, it looks like the queen values presents that are practical and useful. In fact, Prince Harry revealed his son Archie’s favorite gift he received from his great-grandmother during a February 2021 appearance on The Late Late Show, and the present might surprise you.

“Interestingly, my grandmother asked us what Archie wanted for Christmas and Meg said a waffle maker,” the prince shared while chatting with James Corden. “She sent us a waffle maker for Archie, so breakfast now Meg makes up a beautiful organic mix, in the waffle maker, flip it, out it comes, he loves it,” Harry explained. “Archie literally wakes up in the morning and says ‘waffle,'” Harry shared.

But while Corden was in awe over the thought of the queen ordering an appliance via Amazon Prime, it was the gift Meghan gave her in 2017 that left people at a loss for words. Keep scrolling to see the gift Meghan once gave the queen.

Meghan's gift to the queen was one to remember

Back in Meghan Markle’s early days as a member of the royal family, she was understandably stumped when it came to picking out the perfect holiday gift for Her Majesty when she and Prince Harry celebrated Christmas at the queen’s Sandringham estate in 2017.

Instead of going with something opulent, Meghan opted to get the queen something to bring out her silly side. “Meghan bought a little hamster that sings with a little rope for Her Majesty,” a source recalled to The Sun in December 2020. “It was so funny, especially when the corgis tried to take hold of the toy.”

According to the insider, the queen “burst out laughing” when she unwrapped Meghan’s gift, stating, “It can keep my dogs company,” when Her Majesty’s pooches grabbed ahold of the toy. Although her corgis allegedly ripped up the gift soon after, it’s the thought that counts, right?
