Countdown star Carol Vorderman, has taken to Instagram to post a hilarious throwback clip of herself on the show, claiming that she had been “set up” by the game show’s crew. The mathematician, 60, is best known for her 26 year-stint hosting the Channel 4 programme from 1982 to 2008 and in a recent Instagram post, said that she “loved every single day” of the quarter of a century she spent fronting the show, before jokingly branding her team “little monkeys” for the “set up”.
Loved every single day with our Countdowners
In view of her 155,000 followers, the star posted the hilarious throwback clip.
Wearing a smart black blazer and matching trousers, a youthful looking Carol was seen placing letters onto the board.
With her chestnut brown hair reaching just past her shoulders, while donning an eighties-style fringe, the star looked a world away from her self-proclaimed “scruff” look that she favours today.
Addressing the presenter, the game show contestant asked: “Consonant please, Carol.”
Placing a tile onto the board, Carol said, “C”.
“A vowel?” asked the guest.
“That is ‘E’,” confirmed the star.
The contestant asked: “Another vowel?”
“I,” revealed Carol
“Consonant,” said the contestant, before a hand appeared behind the stack of letters.
As her wrist was grabbed by the mysterious hand, Carol screamed and jumped back before she fell about laughing.
Captioning the post, Carol wrote: “Someone has just sent me this. Thank you.
“Richard and the crew had set me up…..the little monkeys,” she added, with laughing emojis.
“God, we had some laughs on Countdown.
“Proper belly laughs making our show for 26 years very happily out of the “London media mix” up in Yorkshire Television in Leeds.
“How lucky we were. Loved every single day with our Countdowners (everyone who watched and took part….all of you were Countdown family to us).
“Thank you gang,” she finished before adding the hashtags, “#happydays #Countdown”.
Addressing the moment on Twitter, fans of the star revealed that they had the same reaction as the presenter did at the time.
One social media user wrote: “I remember watching it, it made me jump!”
Another added: “I love that clip so much, it always makes me laugh!”
