We all know Andy Cohen can be shady from time to time. But when Tituss Burgess came on Watch What Happens Live, no one could have predicted the awkward standoff that would ensue.
What happened on ‘WWHL’?
Burgess and Laverne Cox appeared on Cohen’s show on Sunday. While there, Cohen asked Burgess about what it was like working on his upcoming film, Dolemite Is My Name, with Eddie Murphy.

“I was just wondering if you got close at all because he was very problematic for the gays at one point,” Cohen said.
The host’s comment was in reference to a number of stand up routines that Murphy did in the ’90s that had a lot of anti-gay punch lines. Murphy has since apologized for the things that he said.
“Oh, I see,” Burgess responded. “He wasn’t problematic for Tituss. We had a wonderful time. We talked about Dreamgirls. He should’ve won the Oscar, I believe.”
The moment awkwardly ended, but Burgess continued to mutter something under his breath.
“What are you saying, Tituss?” Cohen asked.
“Keep going, girl,” Burgess responded. “Do your show.”
But the drama didn’t end there.
What happened after the show?
After the show, Burgess took to Instagram to defend what he said.
“She can be a messy queen!” he wrote. “Don’t care he knows either! He should remember his talk show isn’t an episode of The Real Housewives of Atlanta! It’s a place where artists come to talk about art and have a little fun NOT a place to rehash old rumors or bring a star negative press. Sunday was a display of ratchet behavior by a well-connected man having blatant disregard for one of his guests,” he said. “If only time were taken to know who I am and not assuming that I am the character I play on tv he would know how to conduct a proper interview with at all!”
“I received 4 Emmy nominations for acting! Not for being my self. He was lucky I had my wits and Christian values THAT day. Always keep it classy. Being friends with other talented celebrities doesn’t make you talented. It makes you friends with other famous celebrities. He should rip a page from Anderson Cooper and learn how to do his job.”
According to Cohen, Burgess was standoffish towards him from the very beginning of taping.
“He wasn’t having me,” he said on his show, Andy Cohen Live. “What can I tell you? From the jump. I was trying, but no idea.”
Once the interview was over, Burgess apparently ran out of the studio.
“He ran out of there. Did not sign the guest book — he ran out. He was like, ‘He knows I was here.’ That’s what he said to the person who asks to sign the guest book. It was something else, alright.”
Are they on good terms now?
Burgess shows no signs of wanting to reconcile with the Bravo host. He recently went on The Wendy Williams Show and further reiterated his position.
“I will not tolerate the dismantling of anyone’s legacy, especially not my own,” Burgess said. “And who we were speaking about has done a beautiful job being the comedic giant that he is. And he has a wonderful movie coming out, and I was not going to participate in talking about that.”
