Rock icon Sir Rod Stewart, 76, has opened up about his sex life during the 1970s, describing how he felt like something was missing with the women he was intimate with. Thankfully, the star says he “found” what he was looking for eventually, meeting his third wife Penny Lancaster in 1999.

Speaking candidly in a new interview, Rod claimed sex was “always there” for him if he wanted it, which in turn made the whole process of casual intimacy “boring”.

He said: “I did nothing wrong at all. I never had sex with anybody underage, never forced anybody to have sex.

“In fact, sex was always too much for me, it was always there, and it became boring.

“There were a lot of beautiful women, but we had nothing to say at the end of the evening.

“I would long for one woman in my life, I longed to be in a romance, a relationship that was a lot deeper than just sex. And I found it,” he told The Telegraph.

The star met his third wife Penny in 1999, fathered their first child in 2005 and they later went on to marry in 2007.

The pair share two sons together: 16-year-old Alistair and Aiden,10, who was born in 2011.

Rod is promoting a new album, The Tears of Hercules, which features lots of songs that explore the themes of sex, love and relationships.

The singer explained how One More Time is all about sex with an ex, but confessed that he has “never done it”.

“I really have never tried it on. When I’m finished with a woman, that’s it, finished.

“I’m pretty good like that, but we’ve all been tempted,” he admitted.

When it comes to talking about sex, Rod added that he was “unembarrassed and unashamed”, adding that he felt it was his job to remind everyone that it “should be fun”.

The Grammy-winning musician is father to eight children: Sarah, Kimberly, Sean, Ruby, Renée, Liam, Alastair and Aiden.

Rod famously welcomed his first child, Sarah, with ex Susannah Boffey in 1963 in an affair he had when he was just 18, which was immortalised in the hit song Maggie May.

The couple ultimately decided to put their daughter up for adoption and it was only decades later that the star would reconnect with his eldest child, now 57.

Rod went on to marry Alana Stewart in 1979 and the couple welcomed daughter Kimberly, 42, and Sean, 41.

Following his divorce from Alana in 1984, The Handbags and Gladrags singer then dated Kelly Emberg, who gave birth to Ruby, 34, in 1987.

Rod wed Rachel Hunter in 1990, who gave him daughter Renee, 29, and son Liam, 27.

His final romantic chapter began with model Penny more than two decades ago, and the star has candidly spoken about still being “madly in love” with his wife.
