It’s been more than 10 years since Destiny’s Child released music, but fans might be waiting even longer for new tunes. While the legendary ‘90s girl group reunited for Coachella in 2018, Kelly Rowland said on July 23 that she and her band members won’t officially be getting back together any time soon.
What has Kelly Rowland said about a Destiny’s Child reunion?
The “Motivation” singer opened up to Us Weekly on Tuesday, July 23 about whether she and her group members will ever reunite. She told the publication that she, Beyoncé, and Michelle Williams “haven’t talked about it.” Rowland added that it “hasn’t been on our radar.”
“Everybody’s, like, basically doing their own projects right now and we’re just supporting each other,” the 38-year-old added.
The singers have definitely been doing their own things. Rowland is gearing up to release her fifth studio album, which is a follow-up to 2013’s Talk a Good Game. Williams has been busy with speaking engagements and other public appearances. And Beyoncé, on the other hand, has been doing work related to her role in the new, live-action remake of The Lion King.
But, as Rowland said, they still support each other. Most recently, Rowland and Williams attended the Los Angeles premiere of The Lion King in support of their good friend. They posed on the red carpet wearing similar animal print looks.

I never went to college, because I was touring. Had I gone, it would have MOST DEFINITELY BEEN AN HBCU! For my highschoolers out there, who have the opportunity to, choose an HBCU! Everyone I know who has, BRAGS about the experience and I soak up every story and pretend I was there. I didn’t have to pretend in rehearsals, I had a glimpse of the feeling. Thank you sis, for an experience I WILL NEVER FORGET! I love you, genius! If you haven’t yet seen Homecoming, check it out! Let me know what you think! 😉 #BRILLIANT!! #HONEST #LOVE
Williams and Beyoncé’s comments on a reunion are along the same lines
The other members of the girl group, which debuted as a teenage foursome back in 1997, have made similar comments. Williams told Billboard in 2013 that she didn’t know whether they would get back together, but she hasn’t taken the possibility off the table. “You definitely want those moments again,” she told the publication.
When asked about the future of Destiny’s Child in a November 2004 interview with the Associated Press, Beyoncé was noncommital. “I think as far as Destiny’s Child, our main focus is for us to maintain our friendship. And if in three years, five years, 10 years, whenever we decide we wanna do another Destiny’s Child record, then we will do it,” she explained.
“But I think our main goal was to do [Destiny Fulfilled], and I think we just wanna eventually have kids that play together,” the Lemonade crooner continued.
When was the last time Destiny’s Child released an album?
Destiny’s Child’s last album is 2004’s Destiny Fulfilled. The record came after the group took a two-year hiatus, during which they pursued solo projects.
Those projects included Rowland’s debut album Simply Deep (2002), which included the No. 1 single “Dilemma”; Williams’ debut album Heart to Yours (2002), which topped the gospel album chart; and Beyoncé’s critically-acclaimed debut album Dangerously in Love (2003), which earned her five Grammy Awards and blasted her to superstar-status.
They announced plans to disband following the tour for Destiny Fulfilled. In a statement to MTV News, they said they were ready to move on after “working together as Destiny’s Child since we were 9, and touring together since we were 14.”
“We realized that now is the time to pursue our personal goals and solo efforts in earnest,” the statement continued. “No matter what happens, we will always love each other as friends and sisters and will always support each other as artists.”
Hey, that’s better than nothing, right?
