Matt Hancock’s girlfriend Gina Colangelo is said to be receiving regular updates regarding his welfare following his late arrival into I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!
The MP for Suffolk arrives in camp during Wednesday’s episode, where he squeals during his first Bushtucker trial along with fellow latecomer Seann Walsh.
Last year, Mr Hancock hit headlines after he was caught on video breaking his own social distancing rules by kissing Gina, despite being married to his wife, Martha Hancock.
The Sun claims that Ms Colangelo is being kept in the loop with how the politician has fared during the gruesome trials, with his family also informed of his progress.
‘Gina has been updated about Matt’s trial and how he got on,’ a source told the publication.
‘She was told Matt was in good spirits – even though the trial was a rotter.
‘Everything he does in terms of trials will be relayed back to Matt’s family. It means there are no surprises in the show for those watching back at home.’
They added: ‘The other contestants will have the same treatment – and Seann’s girlfriend Grace Adderley had the same call. It means everyone can feel like they are involved.’
Representatives for I’m A Celebrity declined to comment when approached by Metro.co.uk.
Mr Hancock shares three children with Martha, a daughter, and two sons. It’s understood one of their kids is adopted. The former couple was married in 2006.
In February, Mr Hancock gave his first interview about his high profile affair on the Diary of a CEO podcast with Steven Bartlett.
Host Bartlett asked him about the Covid restrictions in place at the time, saying that people were told to only have sex within ‘established relationships’ and avoid casual sex.
He reminded Mr Hancock that he had talked about how he was following the rules, telling the public that he looking forward to hugging his mum when rules were eased.
Mr Hancock appeared unhappy with the line of questioning, asking him to phrase things more respectfully.
‘I haven’t had casual sex with anybody,’ he said. ‘I fell in love with somebody.’
It’s believed Mr Hancock has known Gina for a long period of time since they worked together on student radio at Oxford University.
He brought her in as staff at the health department for professional reasons, he said, and ‘we spent a lot of time together, ironically, trying to get me to be able to communicate in a more emotionally intelligent way.’
‘And we fell in love,’ Mr Hancock continued. ‘And that’s something that was completely outside of my control.’
