Olivia Wilde, Florence Pugh & More Stars Who Proudly Freed the Nipple

Women have been given the messaging throughout history to keep our nipples hidden and private from the world — as if we should somehow be ashamed by this part of our body.

But, as society begins to question these norms and stigmas, powerful campaigns such as the Free the Nipple movement have become ever so popular.

“It’s culturally specific because obviously in other countries there’s less of a fear of the nipple,” Don’t Worry Darling director Olivia Wilde said of her pro-nipple stance to Vogue last year. “I think that we can all really benefit from making sure that we don’t allow the stigmatization of women’s bodies to infect our own perspective of ourself. If we are allowed opportunities to celebrate our body, it has an effect. It has an effect on how we treat one another and how we treat ourselves.”

Wilde is not the only star who has dared to bare the nipple. Kendall Jenner, for example, has freed her nipples in casual errands or while walking down the runway. Talking to Vogue about her most iconic looks throughout the years, Jenner remembered bearing her breasts in a Marc Jacobs show at the beginning of her modeling career. “I’m all good with the nipple,” she said. “I was pretty chill even though my boobies were out. It didn’t make me any more nervous. I genuinely was just like, ‘Dope, whatever they want, it’s their vision, let’s do it.’”

As more celebrities begin to proudly display their nipples, perhaps there will be less pressure on women across the U.S. (and the world) to keep them hidden. After all, every part of a woman’s body is beautiful – and that includes the nipples. Why not embrace them?
