BuzzFeed here, your one and only source into the twists and turns of pop culture today — and in case you haven’t heard, the latest TV news is that there’s going to be a Gossip Girl reboot.
Move over, ’90s sentimentality, because the ’00s nostalgia train is officially coming — and like Serena van der Woodsen circa 2007, she’s here to stay.
Apparently, we’ll be getting 10 hour-long episodes on HBO Max (WarnerMedia’s streaming service) that take place “eight years after the original website went dark,” when a “new generation of New York private school teens are introduced to the social surveillance of Gossip Girl.”
So, the only bad news is that no, we won’t be meeting up with Jenny, Blair, or the rest of the gang from the CW show we all knew and loved and secretly watched after school when our parents weren’t around…
^^Amen to that!
But even though we’re getting a whole new cast of characters, we’re betting the show will still have some basic Serena/Dan/Nate-esque archetypes – every teen drama needs a bad boy and a queen bee, after all!
Even better: if we got to see those archetypes reimagined and subverted in a cool way. ‘Cause hello, it’s 2019, people!
So here’s my question to you: who would YOU want cast in this remake of the most scandalous show about high schoolers to ever exist? And what kind of character would they play?
For example, we’ve already seen Zendaya play a fantastic teen rebel/outcast in both Euphoria and Spider-Man: Far From Home lately. Wouldn’t she be great as a popular-but-harboring-an-extremely-dark-secret clique leader?
