Kate, George and William were present when England lost to Italy on penalties last night. England scored once during the game, in the first two and a half minutes.

It was a goal that sent waves of joy across the UK.

The royals celebrated too, with William jumping to his feet and pumping his fists in the air.

Prince George, seven, celebrated by cheering before jumping into his mother’s arms.

Twitter users responded to the moment. One wrote: “I can’t, this is the cutest, I’m melting.”

Another said: “Look at Prince George hugging his mummy the Duchess of Cambridge as England scores!”

“She makes me smile. Prince George makes me giggle cause he closed his eyes. He’s really happy,” another fan wrote.

One fan wrote: “Love this picture. Prince George was so sweet and very excited.”

“I love seeing how excited he was when we scored and how he shared that celebration with his parents,” one Twitter user wrote.

“Beautiful family. lovely to see so much love for each other. Prince George has just had a wonderful experience for his young life,” another said.

Another fan said: “The best thing to happen in the game. Best photo.”

“Kate is what the world needs, feel she keeps it as real as she can,” one wrote.

“How very lovely and precious,” another said.

It was an important event for the royals, who attended previous games in the tournament.

George wore a suit and tie to the match, as he had before, although some fans were not keen on the ensemble, suggesting a football shirt would have been more appropriate.

One wrote on Twitter: “Who dresses a child like that for a football match?”

“Prince George should have been allowed to wear an England shirt rather than a mini adult jacket and tie!” one wrote.

Kate Middleton wore patriotic white and red for the event. She dressed fairly casually in a white blazer over a t-shirt.

She wore black jeans with a belt and bright red, large earrings.

She underwent a transformation, changing between the finals of Wimbledon and Wembley, a busy day for the royal.

Kate wore a gorgeous pink dress for the finals of Wimbledon.

She wore a £695 pink midi dress from Beulah London.

Kate paired the look with a pair of nude heels – thought to be the Nicholes court shoes from Aldo.
