Tom Zanetti might be a globetrotting international house music DJ and producer now, but he’s come a long way from his humble beginnings growing up as a teen dad in Leeds.

And the 31-year-old DJ made his first appearance on E4's Made in Chelsea on Monday to surprise beau Sophie Hermann in the sprawling Cotswolds mansion for her 34th birthday.

Here is everything you need to know about Tom and his life before finding fame.

Growing up on a Leeds council estate, Tom became a Dad to Deaconn, now 14, in October 2006 when he was 17.

Speaking about becoming a dad, Tom told the BBC: “I just started working any job I could get. I was working in factories, 6 o’clock in morning, 6 o’clock at night, I was working as a butcher putting pork in pies on a conveyor belt. I was working at anything I could do – bricklaying, roofing, scaffolding…"

When his son was 18 months old, he met a new girlfriend, Lizzie Pickavance.

Speaking previously, he said: "When my son was about 18 months old I met a girl called Lizzie. Lizzie was with me for a few years until I was about 21. She really was a part of the family.”

Tragically, Lizzie was killed in a car accident while they were dating.

Lizzie was just 20 years old when she was driving home from work in Manchester and lost control of her car on the M62 near Gildersome.

Lizzie passed away hours later in hospital, leaving Tom to deal with her sudden death.

The music star credits his young son as the motivation to get him through his grief which he says "finished" him.

Speaking to the JKSY podcast, Tom said: “She fell asleep at the wheel. It was really hard. When Lizzie died I was finished. I didn’t want to be here but I had my son with me.

“I never cried in front of my son. I was always upbeat in from of Deaconn. If he left the room then I’d be really upset.”

Tom has previously reflected on his experiences with grief, sharing on Instagram a tribute to Lizzie, and also to his grandfather who also died in a road accident.

“My Grandad Zanetti who was like a dad to me growing up died in a pile-up on the M62, God rest his soul,” he wrote.

“A year later my girlfriend at the time passed in a crash on the same stretch of motorway and as you can imagine life wasn’t easy after a few crazy years but had to crack on. I loved them a lot, we all did.”

In 2016, he paid tribute to his girlfriend in an extended Instagram post saying the loss left him feeling helpless.

“6 years ago today, my girlfriend Elizabeth Rose Pickavance passed away.

“I don’t want to go into detail on how or give a big emotional speech because everyone who knew her and who knows me and my family knows how bad we miss her and she is very loved every day…

“So many things always pop up to show me her beautiful spirit is still around. Losing someone you love is the worst most helpless feeling you can ever experience, but take it from me after losing many people I care about – in time it does get easier to cope with and you will learn to deal with and accept it…”

Tom has admitted that before his son was born he would find himself in trouble with the law.

“Before I found out my son was coming I was in and out of trouble quite often, I used to do things I shouldn’t really have been doing to make money,” he's said.

However, following his son's birth, Tom worked in a factory making wooden pallets to make enough money to take care of his son.

“I did anything I could to try and earn money legitimately to fund my son," he's previously explained.

He now says that above everything, his son is his absolute priority: “My son Deaconn in my number one priority and I make sure we spend as much time together as possible.

“Deaconn’s also done a bit of modelling with me which was great to do. With work, I can be getting to bed at 2am some nights, then I’m up for the school run first thing in the morning.”

During the first lockdown, Tom took Deaconn out of school two weeks early and the pair spent 14 weeks together. The teenager has also starred in one of his dad's music videos.

Tom also revealed how negatively the coronavirus pandemic has affected his work, saying that he’d been "affected massively".

"All the festivals that I run, I've got five festivals and an events management company that have basically just gone," he said.

"I've been affected massively. No one's earning any money really. There's pressure and uncertainty that's affected myself and everybody else.

"I've had to take it in my stride. I just want to keep me and my son safe."
