Juicy new ‘Crown’ trailer pits Queen Elizabeth against Diana, Margaret Thatcher

It’s a royal flush.

A new trailer is out for the upcoming Season 4 of Netflix’s hit “The Crown,” and this one is a doozy, teasing the arrival (and eventual clash) of Princess Diana and Queen Elizabeth, as well as a showdown between the queen and Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.

While Queen Elizabeth will still be played by Olivia Colman [she’ll be replaced in the show’s final two seasons by Imelda Staunton (Dolores Umbridge in the “Harry Potter” franchise), taking the monarch into her later years], both Diana and Thatcher are new additions to the drama, which follows the British royal family through Elizabeth’s reign.

Diana will be played by newcomer Emma Corrin, 24, while Thatcher will be played by Gillian Anderson, 52 (“The X-Files”).

“It’s a dangerous game to make enemies left, right and center,” Coleman’s Queen Elizabeth says in the trailer, to which Anderson’s Thatcher frostily replies, “What if one is comfortable with having enemies?”

The scene is set for lots of tension and face-offs between England’s two vastly different leaders this season.

Meanwhile, Diana first appears in the trailer wearing a mask, then the audience sees her with her back to the camera while hundreds of cameras flash in front of her and crowds cheer. Eventually her face is shown, and she says to the queen, “All I want is to be loved.”

While previous seasons of “The Crown” dealt with history in the 1940s and ’50s that Americans might not be as familiar with, the more recent tragic saga of Princess Diana rings as instantly recognizable territory — laying the groundwork for what’s sure to be an explosive season.

“The Crown” Season 4 premieres Nov. 15 on Netflix. The show will continue and end at Season 6.
