Married At First Sight UK viewers tease honeymoon destination

Married At First Sight UK: Viewers question if ‘producers ran out of budget’ as they slam low-key Lake District honeymoon – while other newlyweds are jetted off to the Maldives and Antigua

  • Franky, 47, wed personal trainer and mother-of-two Marilyse, 37, from Yorkshire
  • Couple were sent to the Lake District on their honeymoon following the wedding
  • Other couples jetted off to the Maldives, Mexico and Antigua on their holiday

Viewers were left questioning if Married at First Sight UK producers ‘ran out of money’ tonight after a pair of newlyweds were sent on an understated honeymoon to the Lake District while their fellow contestants where jetted around the globe.

Franky, 47, who has spent the last 16 years living in Dubai, wed personal trainer and mother-of-two Marilyse, 37, from Yorkshire, and on tonight’s episode of the E4 show were sent to Cumbria on holiday.

While the pair were thrilled with their destination, viewers joked that the producers must have ‘run out of budget’ after other couples were sent off to the Maldives, Mexico and Antigua.

One person wrote: ‘Imagine you go on your honeymoon to Lake District then find out other people went to the Maldives and Mexico. I’d feel so mugged off!’

‘This couple being sent to the Lake District when everyone else gets to go to Maldives, Mexico, Antigua and skiing? I would SUE’, wrote one user.

Another said: ‘How’s one couple in the Maldives and another in The Lake District?’

A third said: ‘Lol they obvs ran out of budget by the time it got to booking Franky and Marilyse’s honeymoon… to the lake district.’

Another person wrote: ‘Imagine getting the Lake District when your pals are in the Maldives.’

The newlyweds received the news they would be heading to the Lake District and despite viewers teasing, the couple thought their choice of destination was ‘amazing’.

Franky said: ‘I know it’s going to be active, I love the outdoors and I’m going to really go for it.

‘For me it will be a good test of Marilyse’s endurance, both mentally and physically.

‘I’ll give her a head start to the head of every peak and we’ll see how we get on, but obviously I’m the daddy.’

And during the ultra-active holiday, the couple were seen mountain biking, as well as hiking and paddle boarding.

This year’s series has been revamped to follow the Australian format, and rather than legal marriages, the couples will make a lifelong commitment to one another at a glamorous ceremony, overseen by a wedding celebrant, that includes guests, bridal gowns, dancing, speeches and cake.

After the ceremony and celebrations are over, true love is put to the test as they embark on a luxurious honeymoon, before moving in with each other and their fellow couples.

Relationships will be put under the microscope, by fellow brides and grooms at weekly dinner parties – as well as by experts, at recurring commitment ceremonies, where couples choose whether they want to stay in or leave the process.

All this will build to a dramatic series finale: glossy, high-stakes vow renewals, in which each couple must decide  if they will recommit to their partner or go their separate ways.
