Meghan Markle Has ‘No Regrets’ Over Her NYC Baby Shower, Report Says

Remember when Meghan Markle caught all of that backlash over her lavish New York City baby shower back in February? The “private, intimate” shower featured elaborate floral arrangements, gourmet food courtesy of Michelin-star chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten, and star-studded guest list — for a total price of roughly $200,000.

Critics argued that the celebration was just too much, but according to a Us Weekly source, Markle doesn’t have any regrets about the way she celebrated the arrival of her and Prince Harry’s first child, Archie.

We’re living for Meghan Markle’s reported comments on her NYC baby shower

The Duchess of Sussex reportedly doesn’t take back her decision to celebrate Archie’s arrival with her good friends, such as Amal Clooney, Serena Williams, and Gayle King.

“She doesn’t regret the baby shower in NYC that got so much backlash,” a source told the publication. “She doesn’t regret celebrating her baby or doing it in NYC.”

The source added that Markle did not receive “a scolding” for the shower, but officials told her that it strayed away from the royal baby shower norm. Oops.

What critics have said about the baby shower

Tons of people commented on Markle’s baby shower, and the comments weren’t always so bright.

The baby shower reportedly “angered” Prince William, according to reports, as former royal butler Paul Burrell told The Sun: “I think William, as well as Kate Middleton, will be totally bewildered by why Meghan is doing all this, as there’s no excuse for overindulgence or excess and that’s what it seems to me.”

He continued: “I think Prince William will be angered by all of Meghan’s lavish extravagance this week and the fact her baby shower looked so ‘celebrity’ rather than ‘royal.’”

The extravagant festivities also reportedly left Dickie Arbiter, Queen Elizabeth II’s former press spokesman, unimpressed.

“Baby showers, it’s very much an American thing,” he explained to Us Weekly. “We don’t do it here in the U.K. It was a bit over the top in terms of expense and the way she got there.”

Meghan Markle is reportedly having a hard time adjusting to life in the United Kingdom

Since Markle became a royal through her marriage to Prince Harry in May 2018, she’s become the subject of unrelenting criticism. Critics have slammed her for everything from her social media habits to her clothing choices, and it appears that the backlash has weighed down on the Duchess of Sussex.

“It’s hard for Meghan in London because the press is so vicious to her there,” one source told Us Weekly. “This is her life every day. But her mentality is like, well if this is what it’s going to be like, I’m going to do what I want to do. I won’t play by these rules.”

What an incredibly special surprise the grassroots led #globalsussexbabyshower was last Sunday! The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are immensely grateful for the outpouring of love and support in anticipation of the birth of their first child. In lieu of sending gifts, the couple have long planned to encourage members of the public to make donations to select charities for children and parents in need. If you already made a donation, the couple send you their greatest thanks. If you are thinking about it, they ask that you kindly consider the following organisations they’ve selected, which we will highlight here over the next few days: @thelunchboxfund @littlevillagehq @wellchild @baby2baby The Duke and Duchess remain appreciative for your warm wishes and kindness during this especially happy time in their lives! Sounds like the Duchess of Sussex has her mind made up. If she wants to throw an elaborate celebration, she will. If she wants to wear a kitschy outfit or post something “bizarre” on social media, she will. And that’s that.
