Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Are Fed Up With the Relentless Attacks

Ever since Meghan Markle joined the royal family, she and her husband, Prince Harry, have endured never-ending criticism. The public’s recent complaints about their use of private jets is only a small portion of the problems they’ve faced. But Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan are starting to fight back. While royals in the past have always kept quiet against criticism, the Sussexes are speaking out more than ever before.

Prince Harry defended Meghan Markle before they were even married

We received the first hint that something would be different when Prince Harry made the unprecedented move to defend Markle against attacks when they first started dating. Kensington Palace released a statement both confirming the relationship and asking that the media leave Markle and her family in peace.

“Since he was young, Prince Harry has been very aware of the warmth that has been extended to him by members of the public,” the statement began. It continued by saying that Prince Harry understands people will be interested in his life. While it does make him a little uncomfortable, Prince Harry had never asked the media to step back before.

The statement continued, “But the past week has seen a line crossed. His girlfriend, Meghan Markle, has been subject to a wave of abuse and harassment.” It then listed all the ways Markle had been harassed, calling some attacks “sexist and racist.”

“Prince Harry is worried about Ms. Markle’s safety and is deeply disappointed that he has not been able to protect her,” it read. While acknowledging that people would say Prince Harry has to put up with this intrusion, the statement insisted that he and Markle had a right to private life.

Unfortunately, the statement did little to calm news stories. They continued to receive judgment throughout their engagement and early married life.

Buckingham Palace defended the Sussexes about neighborhood rules

After Prince Harry and Markle moved into Frogmore Cottage, they again drew media attention when it was reported that they had issued rules to all their neighbors. The Sun claimed that a meeting had been called for all those who live around Frogmore. They were told to never initiate a conversation with the Sussexes, ask about Archie, or offer to babysit, among other rules.

Understandably, neighbors of the area and the general public were outraged by the rules. A royal had never made such demands before and it was seen as incredibly rude and self-centered.

Buckingham Palace stepped in to defend Prince Harry and Markle. “The Duke and Duchess didn’t request this, didn’t know about it, and had nothing to do with the content or guidance offered,” a palace official told US Weekly. Instead, they blamed the overreaching rules on “an overprotective palace official.”

It was unusual that the palace said anything about the matter. But most consider it a sign that the Sussexes and the rest of the palace were growing concerned over the constant criticism and attacks.

Prince Harry defended his family’s jet use

This month, the royals once again defended themselves. Prince Harry and Markle were criticized recently when they lectured the world about climate change and protecting the environment in an issue of Vogue magazine, which was guest-edited by the duchess herself. They then took four private jet flights over the span of a week, prompting the public to label them hypocrites.

In a surprising move, Prince Harry responded to critics during a speech to launch his eco-tourism project, Travalyst. “I came here by commercial. I spend 99 percent of my life traveling the world by commercial,” he said.”Occasionally there needs to be an opportunity based on a unique circumstance to ensure my family are safe and it’s genuinely as simple as that.”

The examples of Prince Harry and Markle speaking out against criticism seems to be becoming more regular, and many are taking this as a sign that they’re fed up with the media’s comments. We may be seeing them fight back more often in the future, but only time will tell for sure.
