When Paul Pogba is firing on all cylinders there are few better midfielders in Europe

We’ve been here before, haven’t we?

Every time Paul Pogba (£3.5m) picks up a bit of form he starts to look very inviting as the points stack up.

A clutch goal cemented a Star Man performance against Fulham on Wednesday night as the Frenchman built on his improved showings in recent weeks with a genuinely brilliant display.

Naturally, this upturn in form has translated to Dream Team joy — Pogba added 25 points to his total in the space of just eight days.

Suddenly he’s on 70 points for the season, more than Riyad Mahrez (£3.7m), Kai Havertz (£3.5m) and Wilfried Zaha (£3.2m).

And that’s the thing about the Man United playmaker, when he’s firing on all cylinders there are few better midfielders in Europe.

The 7+ ratings and Star Man awards come easily to him when he’s in the groove and dictating games from the middle of the park, as evidenced at Craven Cottage.

Having languished down the rankings for much of the season, Pogba is now just eight points off breaking into the top ten midfielders.

While the 27-year-old seems like a decent option for those in need of a differential – his ownership stands at 4.1% at the time of writing – more cautious gaffers will be wary of banking on a notoriously inconsistent player.

We’ve seen it time and time again in recent seasons: one week he’s unplayable, the next he’s unselectable.

He picked up just seven points between Game Week 4 and Game Week 10 and it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to anyone if he laboured through a similar dry spell again before the end of the season.

Pogba is a Dream Team gem at his best but it’s impossible to tell how long ‘his best’ will last these days.

And yet, when you watch him play like he did against Fulham, resisting a transfer can be difficult…
