Nearly two weeks after his wife Jada Pinkett Smith built an at-home roller rink to celebrate her 50th birthday, Will Smith rented out the entire Regal Cinemas in Calabasas, Calif., to celebrate his 53rd birthday.
“He had a very private party… He rented out the theater [for] a hundred people and they watched [his latest film] ‘King Richard,’ and had food and snacks,” a source told Page Six.
Unlike Jada’s party — which brought out celebs such as Toni Braxton, MC Lyte, and Jordyn Woods — Will’s bash was more of a family affair. The entire Smith family was in attendance –except for the starry couple’s son, Jaden, who we’re told was away in Europe. (Jaden was recently spotted out at London Fashion Week.)
Cell phones were banned at Will’s bash, according to our sources.
“He showed his movie, so that’s why there were no phones,” another source — who described the evening as “a blast” — told us.
In “King Richard,” Oscar nominee Smith portrays Venus and Serena Williams’ father, Richard Williams, as he trains his daughters to become two of the world’s greatest tennis players.
“I wrote me a 78-page plan for their whole career before they was even born,” Smith as Williams explains in the film’s trailer.
Smith commented on the role in GQ magazine, by saying, “Richard Williams is a lot like my father… So when I first read [the script], I understood what it’s like to want your kids to succeed. I had done it a little bit with my kids. I understood what it was to try to mold a young mind, how it’s different with sons than it is with daughters.”
The film will premiere in theaters on Nov. 19.
