Eamonn Holmes admits his marriage to Ruth became strained after health issues

Eamonn Holmes has opened up about marriage problems with wife Ruth Langsford.

The 62-year-old TV star explained that their 26-year relationship had become "strained" after he'd sustained a painful back injury which made him "grumpier".

Last year, the presenter who is just about to start his new role with GB News suffered from a trapped sciatic nerve that left him unable to walk for some time.

With his health issues preventing him from getting around so freely, his busy Loose Women star wife Ruth, 61, ended up "waiting on" him.

His agony and grumbles if led to his entire family being left fed up by his constant moaning.

Speaking to The Sun in a honest interview, Eamonn confessed: "I don't walk – it's more of a wobble. It has been very difficult this year. My problem is a trapped sciatic nerve, but I don’t even know quite how it initially happened.

"For months now I haven’t been able to walk, sometimes at all, and it has really taken its toll on everyone around me too."

The former This Morning host added that his son's had become "a bit embarrassed" by his mobility.

Eamonn confessed that he has had to come up with nifty hacks – such as using a hook to pull his trousers up and aids to get his shoes on – life had been that hard and sometimes "quite emasculating".

In order to get his life back on track the former GMB presenter has been working with a Premier League football coach and is taking each day as it comes in terms of his recovery.

When discussing his low energy and mood and the toll that had taken on his family, Eamonn added: "Even my own family are bored of my moaning.

"It has caused some strain and Ruth is fed up of hearing about it and of me saying I can’t walk the dog or tidy up, but I can’t help it. It's agony."

To help his suffering, the TV icon will sometimes take Tramadol to stem the pain – but knows this is something he cannot take all of the time.

Eamonn is about to embark on a new TV journey as he gears up for his debut with GB News.

With the early morning alarm about to chime at 2.45am, this also caused upset with his wife Ruth when he asked if she'd prefer to sleep in their spare bedroom.

He explained: "I was trying to be considerate.

"I really struggle getting myself dressed in the mornings because of my back problems, and the last thing she wants is me clattering around with the lights on at 3am."
