Hugh Grant was stuck on the toilet for three months with ‘explosive’ diarrhoea

Hugh Grant was stuck on the loo for three months after being struck down with Delhi belly.

The 60-year-old recalled visiting India in 1988 to film The Bengali Night, saying: "You get poisoned on day three.

“On that film, I was there for three months and I didn’t leave the lavatory except to shoot my scenes – and then I had to go back to continue with my explosive diarrhoea."

Hugh also told the WTF With Marc Maron podcast that he got stuck in traffic in Calcutta – next to a dead body on a stretcher.

The movie star went on to reveal that he paid a prostitute for $60 oral sex after a Hollywood film but him in a "bad mood".

Hugh was caught with sex worker Divine Brown in 1995 and he explained that their encounter took place because he was left feeling frustrated over his acting performance.

He told the podcast: "I was about to launch my first Hollywood film – my timing was impeccable.

"My problem was – that was my first Hollywood film and I’d just been to see it.

"The film was about to come out a week or two after that, and I had a bad feeling about it.

"I went to see a screening. Everyone in it was brilliant, but I was so atrocious that I was not in a good frame of mind."

Hugh said that he was disappointed with his "atrocious" performance and one thing led to another on the fateful day.

He continued: "I had a Ken Russell kind of lunch – and one thing led to another. I just was disappointed in myself.

"I don't know what was going on. It was called Nine Months."

Police spotted Hugh receiving oral sex from Divine, born Estella Marie Thompson, in his car on Sunset Boulevard.

Following the arrest, Hugh actually owned up to his actions in a statement and apologised.

"Last night I did something completely insane," he said in a statement at the time.

"I have hurt people I love and embarrassed people I work with. For both things I am more sorry than I can ever possibly say."

He then pleaded no contest and was fined $1,180 and was placed on two years' summary probation by Judge Robert J Sandoval.

The actor – who is now married and has five children – has dramatically changed his ways since his arrest.

During a recent podcast, he added that there isn't much room for him to "misbehave".

At the time, Divine did not know who Hugh was but she received plenty of publicity after the fact, appearing on shows such as The Howard Stern Show.

It's reported that she became a millionaire after all of the publicity and was able to put her daughters through private school, while also buying a home in Beverly Hills.
