Joe Wicks saved by stranger after being stranded at sea due to broken surfboard

Joe Wicks couldn't believe his luck after he was "saved" by environmental campaigner after his electric surfboard broke down in transit in the middle of the sea.

The Body Coach, who celebrated his 36th birthday on Tuesday, had visited the scenic coast of Lulworth in Dorset and took to the waters to test out his gadget.

At the time, he and wife Rosie both ventured out on the sea together but Joe's surfboard became flooded with water, leaving him with no other option but to scramble onto some nearby rocks.

With no other vessel or support in sight Joe frantically waved his arms in hope that help would find him.

Thankfully, he was spotted by campaigner Oly Rush, a plasterer from Poole, who had been scouting the coastline by boat to pick up rubbish from the water.

Oly and the Clean Jurassic Coast clan heard Joe's "SOS" cries and kicked the rescue mission into operation.

As they approached, Joe jumped back into the water to swim just a short distance – with the boat waiting to swoop him up and return him to land.

Rosie had been busy trying to flag down help for her husband and had not been with the team at the time of the rescue.

Oly, said: "We were out a beach clean on my boat, Sea Rex, with others from Clean Jurassic Coast, when we noticed this guy signalling to us from the rocks.

"As I got closer I said, 'Hang on, don't I recognise you? You're Joe Wicks!' It was completely random.

"He had a little jet board he'd been taking from Lulworth to Durdle Door but the engine filled with water.

"It was his birthday and he was visiting Dorset with his wife.

"He swam up to our boat because we couldn't get any closer to the rocks and he jumped on board and we took him back to Lulworth. His wife had gone to get help."

Over on Instagram Joe praised called Oly branding him a real life "hero".

He added: "I waved to these guys going past and I said, 'help, SOS!'

"And these guys who are out here cleaning all the rubbish picked me up – so thank you Oly for saving my life.

"Rosie just left me. We're on our way back to Lulworth Cove, so we made it. The board is struggling."
