Getting a revenge body is harder than it looks.
That’s what celebrity trainer Gunnar Peterson had to say about being on Khloé Kardashian’s reality show, Revenge Body with Khloé Kardashian, where the 34-year-old provides contestants with the tools to better their physical and mental health, acting as a mentor.
Having a personal trainer at the ready along with a nutrition plan may seem like the hard part of a getting a “revenge body” is done but it’s not.
The trainer to the stars is a regular on Khloé Kardashian’s fitness show and says there’s a lot more that goes into it than meets the eye.
“You think that because it’s all laid out for you that it’s going to be easy to execute, it’s not,” Peterson told Page Six. “There’s a lot of discipline and there are a lot of mental games,” he added.
Peterson has trained Kardashian for years and calls himself the “OG” or original guy of the show because he’s participated in all three seasons. Other celebrity clients of his include Sofia Vergara, Jennifer Lopez, and Angelina Jolie to name a few.
Contestants face ‘self-doubt’ and ‘self-criticism’
Watching contestants on Revenge Body with Khloé Kardashian meet with personal trainers and talk with nutritionists or dieticians may seem like a dream come true like the biggest weight-loss hurdles have been passed because of the tools provided by the show but the contestants are responsible for much more.
“They’re thrown into what may look like, ‘Oh, cool so I get a trainer, somebody to help me with my diet, this is gonna be great,’…there’s still a lot of work required on the contestants part,” Peterson told the publication.
They face mental challenges throughout their transformation.
“If [the transformation] doesn’t happen the way they envision it happening right out of the gate, then there’s self-doubt and then there’s self-criticism,” he added.
Peterson continued, saying he provides mental support for those on the show as well helping them with the physical training by checking in with contestants.
“You have to remind them, ‘Hey I’m on your team, I’m here for you, I’m your guy, I’m checking in with you just to make sure we stay the course so this becomes routine,’” he said.
So routine, in fact, exercise becomes like taking a shower, he added.
Gunnar Peterson’s advice for staying consistent with workouts
Peterson passed along tips to stay consistent with exercise by thinking of it in another way. “Treat it like a first date,” he said. Another way to think about it? “Like a job interview,” he added.
“You’re not going to cancel those,” he said.
