Boy George addresses Matt Hancock bullying row after Ofcom complaints

Boy George has addressed the Matt Hancock "bullying row" after I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! was hit with a barrage of Ofcom complaints.

Addressing the situation of the former health secretary starring in this year's series of the gruelling reality show, Boy George has finally broken his silence.

The 61-year-old Karma Chameleon singer has been quizzed by his ever-growing fan base on Instagram, with George responding candidly.

A fan asked Boy George: "Apparently you are all bullies because you asked the MP awkward questions."

The question referred to Boy George, Chris Moyles and Sue Cleaver – who have all come under fire for questioning the MP.

Replying to the question, the Culture Club icon said: "I think Matt Hancock will say otherwise and many will have Ostrich egg on their faces.

"I treated him with absolute respect. I said what I needed to say and I made some fun digs but there was zero awkwardness. He appreciated my directness."

Grilling the 80s musician about his time in the jungle, another said: "He’s my MP George. I was willing you to say more to him."

To which he responded: "Not everything is broadcast! I said plenty but in the end I did not want to bully Matt."

Adding: "He will not complain about me because I behaved like an adult. There is zero issue between us.

"That might disappoint some but I have no regrets about anything. I’m not five years old!"

Earlier on in the series, viewers felt "uncomfortable" when they watched on as Matt entered the jungle and spoke with the celebrities.

Viewers have sent thousands of complaints to regulator Ofcom over "bullying" claims from Matt's campmates.

Among the celebrities who came under fire, Boy George confronted Matt on a couple of occasions while in the jungle.

One time he was speaking to Seann Walsh when he said: "Can’t stand Matt. I have tried to like him and I’ve failed. I find him slimy, I find him slippery.

"I find him just… I made a joke about chocolate. He just looked at me like… I wanted to say, ‘What are you looking at? Don’t you look at me like that?’ I’ve tried to separate what I feel about him from who he is as a person, but I can’t."

Matt walked over to the duo, which then forced George to come clean about what he had said.

"I was making a joke about the chocolate. For god’s sake, I was like… let’s have a bit of fun. I didn’t like the way you looked at me. I made a joke and you were like," said George.

Matt replied: "Oh no, I wasn’t… that wasn’t my intention… I’m really sorry about that. That wasn’t my intention at all." He apologised again, adding: "I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable."

George also confronted Matt about the handling of the coronavirus pandemic, but ultimately the pair put their differences aside in order to live with one another.

The pair were seen singing together when the Jungle Arms opened the night before Boy George was axed, and also hugging when the 80s star left camp.
