Coronation Street actress Alexandra Mardell has opened up on the tragic real-life link to her character Emma Brooker’s current storyline.
Emma’s father sadly passed away after a battle with cancer in emotional scenes that aired this week.
It’s the start of a huge new storyline for the character, with her mum confirmed to be former resident Fiona Middleton – with ex Steve McDonald since finding out he could be her biological father.
Emma learned her dad wasn’t her biological father just before he passed away, but she herself is yet to discover the truth.

Taking to Instagram , the actress spoke of the “meaningful” storyline and how “important” it was for her.
She said: “This ones for you Dad. So honoured I was given the chance to take on the story of Emma's loss.
“This will always be one of the most meaningful stories to play for me. Something so important that I could truly relate to. @coronationstreet.”
