Corrie killer Stephen star says brutal second murder came sooner than expected

Coronation Street star Todd Boyce has revealed that he didn't expect his character Stephen Reid to kill again so soon.

Fans of the ITV soap watched Stephen murder Teddy Thompkins (Grant Burgin) in dramatic scenes during Friday's (January 20) episode.

It comes just four months after the Weatherfield killer bumped off Teddy's son on Leo Thompkins (Joe Frost).

Teddy worked out Stephen was responsible for killing Leo but got killed before he got to report him by the police.

Actor Todd has opened up about become the latest serial killer on the cobbles.

"Iain MacLeod [producer] and I sat down on a Zoom and I had no clue I was going to be a murderer," Todd explained to Daily Star and other press.

"I think the blood probably drained from my face and then I thought 'Oh my god I'm going to be a baddie' and the blood came back to my face.

"He kindly wanted to see if that was OK with me but then he said there will be another murder at some point.

"It has come sooner than I expected."

Todd, 61, went on to reveal that his concerned cast members have asked how long he's sticking around as they worry about the future of their characters.

He said: "If I get one more time 'So how long you going to be on the show?' I've had the same people ask me three or four times.

"Hugely and generally speaking crew members here have said their husbands at home have been asking 'When are they going to find him out?' but the tease is stretch it out."

Stephen moved back to Weatherfield last year to live with his mum Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls) as a last resort after blowing all his money.

The soap star says that one of his close pals in real life went through the same dilemma and used the real-life connection when playing out the scenes.

He said: "I have a friend who was a very rich man, the wheels came off, who ended up going home to his mum, very coincidentally.

"I can conceited in the reality of one of my best friends, which is great because I believe it and I know it.

"I said to this friend of my mine 'you're going to end up in your mum's home in Kent' if you keep doing this and he did."

Following Teddy's brutal murder, Todd has teased who Stephen's next victim could be.

He said: "Carla's getting on his wick.

"She's humiliated him on two occasions in front of his former colleagues who he worked with in Milan.

"She's got a business he'd like to get his hands on."

"Carla is skating on very thin ice."
