Lucifer recently returned to Netflix last month for season five part two. The season was filled with surprises for fans, one of them being the return of the musical segments. But does Lucifer star Tom Ellis actually sing in the series?
Does Tom Ellis sing in Lucifer?
Yes, Tom Ellis does do his own singing in the series, with him now performing in multiple musical numbers throughout the show.
However, his performances stop at signing, as he does not actually play the piano during these scenes.
Fans got to the Lucifer star sing again during season five part two with the episode Bloody Celestial Karaoke Jam.
The entire episode was one big musical and was hyped by both the cast and crew before the season’s release.
Speaking to Collider, Tim Ellis said: “Ildy [Modrovich], one half of our showrunning team, has wanted to do a musical episode for a long time.
“It was Season 5, [which was going to be] our final season, so we definitely needed to try to do that.
“I’ve always wanted to do it, but I’ve also been of the mind that there needs to be a reason that people are singing as opposed to it’s just a gimmicky episode.”
The show managed to incorporate the singing in a natural way, with the showrunners ensuring that fans weren’t completely pulled out of the series because of it.
The singing doesn’t stop with Ellis however, with most of the cast actually joining in the musical moments.
Chloe Decker (Lauren German), Amenadial (DB Woodside), and Dan Espinoza (Kevin Alejandro) have all actually sang in the series alongside Ellis.
So far there have been eight musical scenes throughout the series, with the season five part two episode being the first full musical episode.
With the show being extended for season six, fans should expect there to be more singing before the season finale.
Season six doesn’t have a release date as of yet, however filming began in March, 2021, meaning the show is on track for a mid-2022 release date.
The sixth season will be the last outing for the show, after the series was originally envisioned to have just five seasons when Netflix took over.
The show was first created by Fox before the broadcaster cancelled the series after season three.
Netflix came in to save the show, delighting fans, with the series going from strength to strength since.
Fans have also shared their thoughts on the singing in the series, with many of them taking to Twitter to talk about the big season five episode.
One fan said: “LUCIFER SINGING ONE OF MY FAV MUSICAL SONGG?? I dreamed a dream has a very special place in my heart.”
Another fan added: “God and Lucifer singing “I dreamed a Dream” was the most perfect scene #LuciferSeason5B.”
A third said: “When God asked lucifer if the singing and dancing was fun and lucifer laughed and said “well of course” THAT’S MY BABY HES SO CUTE!”
Lucifer season four and five are available to watch on Netflix, with season’s one – three available on Amazon Prime Video.
