Stacey Fowler (Lacey Turner) has left EastEnders in a panic, after she brutally beat Phil Mitchell with a wrench, for starting on husband Martin (James Bye) and cousin Kat Moon (Jessie Wallace).
Despite Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) framing Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters) for the attack, Stacey was taking no chances and decided to go on the run from Walford, in a bid to make sure the police didn’t come after her.
While Phil fought for his life in a coma, and fingers started pointing all over Albert Square, viewers saw Stacey in complete panic as she prepared to flee for good, with Martin and her kids by her side.
Speaking about the scenes, Lacey revealed her character saw running away as her ‘only option’.
‘She sees that as her only option, obviously Stacey has previous, and a history with the police, so she thinks this could put her away for a very long time and she’s petrified,’ the 31-year-old explained.
‘As it all sinks in, she thinks her only option is to take the kids and leave.
‘I think it was blind panic that led her to hitting Phil. Seeing Martin, the man she loves and the father of her kids in danger, she had to do what she had to do.’
The couple haven’t had the easiest time of it recently, with her close bond with old flame Max Branning driving another wedge between them.
And Lacey revealed Martin’s decision to join Stacey on the run ‘completely threw’ the mum-of-three.
‘She wants to protect him so she thought by taking herself out of the equation and out of Walford, she’d be able do that,’ she continued.
‘I think this is where we see Martin’s true love for Stacey too, he’s willing to give his entire life up and go on the run with her, regardless of potential consequences down the line.’
Ben walked into the Arches just seconds after Stacey hit Phil over the head – so basically at the worst possible moment – and took control of the situation, telling them all to ‘leave it to him’.
Unbeknown to them, he was actually planning on stitching Keanu up for the whole thing – in revenge for the mechanic replacing him in his dad’s will.
But are they suspicious of him, and do they have reason to be?
‘I think they were all in shock, and seeing Ben so controlled they just did as they were told,’ Lacey revealed. ‘I don’t think they’ve even had a chance to process everything that has happened and the trouble they could be in.
‘Stacey definitely is in complete shock and when she got home that’s when we saw it all sinking in.’
So what’s next for the Fowlers?
‘Well we’ll just have to see how Ben’s plan plays out, poor Keanu,’ she added. ‘Stacey and Martin are planning to lay low and let the dust settle but I’m sure they’ll be in cahoots with the Slaters for updates.
‘For now, Walford isn’t safe for any of them so they had to vanish.’
But will they come back? What does this mean for Kush? And will Ben come clean? We’ll have to tune in to find out.
