EastEnders star Tony Clay teases dramatic Halfway wedding storyline

EastEnders actor Tony Clay is involved in one of the most nerve-wracking storylines on the soap right now as his character Callum ‘Halfway’ Highway prepares to marry fiancé Whitney Dean (Shona McCarty) while his affair with Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) sizzles.

The actor, 26, has teased some details about the upcoming drama.

‘Next week there’s a lot of drama as you would expect in an EastEnders wedding. There’s a lot going on, we see a lot of Callum, struggling with what’s going on,’ he said.

‘I think it’s something that he thought he could push away and now it’s the big day and we start to see that unravel.’

The star cautiously spoke about the highly anticipated scenes on an appearance on Lorraine this morning.

He added to host Christine Lampard: ‘For the viewers, this week and next week, there’s so much that goes on.

‘I’ve seen the episodes and they’re really, really great. I’m not just bigging it up!

‘It’s really special and lovely to be a part of.’

As for portraying and his situation, Tony admitted he feels ‘a massive responsibility’.

‘When you’re given a storyline like that you want to handle it with care and you want to represent the people in the right way and I hope that I’m doing that.’

Reflecting on his experience on the show, Tony praised his co-star Max Bowden.

‘We’re working with each other quite a bit, you’re kind of on top of each other and if you don’t get on that could sort of jar things but we really do and I love working with Max – he’s such a talented and giving actor.

‘It’s really nice, there’s a lovely chemistry there.’

Although he did bemoan one peril of working with Max, namely the beard rash from their kissing scenes.

‘We’ve both got a little bit of stubble going on so just lots of moisturiser and makeup!’ he laughed.

Lorraine airs weekdays on ITV at 8.30am.
