Emmerdale spoiler video shows Mary coming out as gay to shocked Rhona

A new Emmerdale video has been released that shows the moment Mary (Louise Jameson) comes out to her daughter Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry).

Following Mary’s arrival to the village, her storylines so far have been about making friends with the residents or helping to look after Marlon (Mark Charnock) as he continues his recovery after having a stroke.

Coming up, after a chat with her new pal Kim Tate (Claire King), Mary decides she will tell Rhona about her sexuality.

In the kitchen, it’s very clear Mary is nervous as she buys herself some time by making a cup of tea and waffling on about her trip to America to watch the tennis.

Because of Mary’s ability to distract herself, Rhona immediately fears she’s unwell and is too afraid to say it.

Mary then goes on to say how she isn’t ill, but some people – ‘idiots’ – will think that she is.

And then she reveals the truth – she’s a lesbian.

It’s very clear by the look on Rhona’s face this news has come as a complete shock, but will she accept her mother’s news?

Recently, in a chat with Metro.co.uk, producer Kate Brooks explained how important Mary’s coming out story is:

‘With the character of Mary, we wanted to explore her back story and how she struggled to accept her sexuality and was forced to suppress her feelings in order to conform to the social norms of society.’

‘While progress has and continues to be made, for Mary she had to settle for convention and a life half lived.

‘We wanted to show Mary’s courage as she admitted to herself, and to the world, that she is gay and in doing so give people hope that you can still be your authentic self, whatever your age.’
