Emmerdale fans have predicted the village's new vicar Charles has a secret to hide – and it involves law enforcement.
The vicar, played by Kevin Mathurin, joined Harriet Finch in the church this week, helping her to craft sermons as he settled into life in the Yorkshire dales.
However, Friday's episode saw Charles quiz Dawn Taylor about Harriet's past, raising certain viewers' suspicions.
Taking to Twitter, soap buffs wondered whether Charles had been hired by the police to look into the disappearance of DI Malone.
Dawn murdered bent copper Malone last year, accidentally killing him in an act of self-defence.
Harriet helped her to bury his body in the graveyard, trying desperately to cover their tracks.
Unfortunately, Charles' arrival has stoked their paranoia, leading Dawn and Harriet to fret over his true intentions.
One viewer mused: "I'm calling this now – the new Vicar is an undercover cop!"
"I feel this vicar is undercover something about him," added a second, and a third penned: "Charles the undercover vicar."
"This vicar is up to something!!" agreed a fourth.
Concerned by her behavior, dad Will Taylor urged Dawn to give the new vicar a chance, begging her to put Malone's murder behind her.
Unable to shake her instincts, Dawn insisted there was something amiss with Charles' line of questioning, as she claimed he was "sticking his nose into other people's business".
Will pleaded: "You’ve got to give over being paranoid."
Refusing to step down, Dawn pointed out: "Harriet needs to say one thing, slip up once, and then it's game over."
Is Dawn right to be suspicious, or should she give Charles a chance?
Emmerdale airs on weekdays at 7pm on ITV, with a second helping on Thursdays at 8pm.
