Evan Rachel Wood has slammed Stranger Things’s Jim Hopper and called out his ‘toxic’ behaviour in the show’s third season.
The 31-year-old Westworld actress publicly took issue with the Netflix character, played by David Harbour, and blasted his ‘extreme jealousy’ in a series of scathing tweets.
‘You should never date a guy like the cop from
#strangerthings,’ Evan began. ‘Extreme jealousy and violent rages are not flattering or sexy like TV would have you believe. That is all.’
She then continued: ‘Yes, I am aware [it’s] “just a show” and it’s set “in the 80s”, even though this stuff was unacceptable then, too. But that’s exactly my point.
‘It’s just a show and this is a gentle reminder not to fall for this crap in real life.’
In another tweet posted yesterday, Evan said: ‘I didn’t even say he was a bad guy or to stop watching the show, I just said “don’t date people like that.”
‘But alas, abusers hear an attack and want a fight. Proving my point with their own retaliation.’
One particular scene that Evan took issue with was when Hopper confronted Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) about standing her up on their date.
‘She rescheduled the date he yelled and got in her face about while policing every guy she spoke to,’ Evan wrote. ‘No thanks.’
Despite Evan’s greivances, Stranger Things 3 has been hailed the best season yet with Netflix revealing that over 20 million ‘household accounts’ have already watched it since its release last week.
Since season three dropped, showrunner Shawn Levy has revealed that a fourth installment is ‘definitely happening’, however this is yet to be officially confirmed.
Stranger Things is available to stream on Netflix.
