Ahead of the news The Walking Dead would be coming to an end, the AMC franchise ordered a number of spin-offs including Fear the Walking Dead. This is where fans met Travis (Cliff Curtis) and, after an explosive departure from the show, the actor has landed a huge new role in an upcoming Netflix movie.

In the new Australian Netflix movie, Cliff will be starring alongside Anna Pacquin and Josh Lawson.

The movie called True Spirit will be based on the true-life story of Jessica Watson, a 16-year-old trailblazer.

She became Australia’s youngest person to sail solo, non-stop and with no assistance across the world in 2010.

For 210 days, Jessica was at sea defeating many of the world’s most challenging stretches and overcoming seven knockdowns.

According to Deadline, Cliff will portray her coach Ben Bryant, Anna will play Jessica’s mother and Josh is set to star as her father.

They will be joining actress Teagan Croft, who will take the lead as Jessica as she was previously named in the cast.

The movie will be adapted from Jessica Watson’s bestselling memoir of the same name and directed by Sarah Spillane.

Production begins later this year and will take place in the country’s capital of Sydney and then in Queensland.

Cliff is an Australian native therefore he won’t have to hide his accent, however, this new role is very different from where fans know him from.

Fear the Walking Dead was the franchise’s first spin-off and was created to give fans an in-depth look at how the apocalypse truly affected one family.

It was at the start of the outbreak when reports about the zombies were coming in and the reasons behind their invasion were unknown.

It highlighted the realities of one complicated blended family Travis Manawa who was engaged to Madison Clark (Kim Dickes).

The couple also had children from previous relationships with Madison’s children Alicia Clark ( Alycia Debnam-Carey), Nick Clark (Frank Dillane) and Travis’s son Chris Manawa (Lorenzo James Henrie).

The group were later joined by his ex-wife Liza Ortiz (Elizabeth Rodriguez) and together they learned new skills to adapt and survive during the zombie apocalypse.

Throughout the first two of six seasons, Travis went from being fearful and hesitant about killing the undead to being able to take multiple down to protect his family.

Unfortunately, this came to an end for him as he was shot dead by season three.

As production for True Spirit has yet to begin, there is no news about a potential date yet.

As well as recognising Cliff from Fear the Walking Dead, fans may also remember Josh from Bombshell and Anna from the long-running series called True Blood.
