Inside Corrie Tez stars private life from Hollywood fame to rival soap role

Coronation Street fans will meet Abi's ex-partner Tez in this week as he makes his Weatherfield debut in Wednesday's episode.

Kevin Webster comes face to face with Tez while searching for his missing girlfriend Abi.

During their intense meeting, Kevin breaks the news to Tez about his son Seb's tragic death and admits that he's worried that Abi has turned to drugs in her grief.

Viewers will recognise actor Stephen Lord, who plays Tez, from his role in another popular evening soap, EastEnders.

Soap fans will remember that Stephen played Jase Dyer, the father of Jay Brown, from 2007 until 2008.

However, his character was killed by gangster Terry Bates, after Bates held Jay hostage in a dramatic storyline in 2008.

Viewers won't just recognise Stephen from his soap roles though – he has also starred in Hollywood films and TV programmes in a career dating back over two decades.

Born on October 1, 1971 in Salford, Greater Manchester, Stephen trained at the Salford College and Music and Drama, landing his first tv role in The Bill as Robert Parsons in 1992.

Since then, he hasn't left our screens, appearing in Casualty as Warren Clements from 2010-2011, Dominic Meek in Shameless from 2012-2013 and Warren Roper in horror drama Penny Dreadful from 2014-2015.

In 2015, he also played Fuller in the film Legend, alongside Tom Hardy as Ronnie and Reggie Kray.

Most recently, he played Stuart Callaghan in Marcella in 2016, and Teddy in the 2020 series The South Westerlies.

Stephen is married to actress and producer Elaine Cassidy, who most recently played Louisa De Claremont in critically acclaimed TV series A Discovery of Witches in 2021.

Elaine is also known for playing Abby Mills in CBS programme Harper's Island.

It is reported that the couple met while working on the film The Truth in 2006.

They have been married since 2012 and have two children.

Talking to the Sunday People in 2011 about separating his home and work life, Stephen said, "I give 110 per cent at work and 110 per cent when I come home and spend time with Elaine and Kila, who is now 16 months old, but the two parts of my life don't overlap anymore.

"In the old days, I'd go to any lengths to get a character right."

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday on ITV at 7.30pm and 8.30pm
