The first picture of the new David Bowie movie, Stardust, has been released and fans can’t get over how much Johnny Flynn looks like the singer in his younger days.
The movie, which producers insist is ‘not a biopic’, is an unauthorised look at David Bowie’s early life and how he became Ziggy Stardust in the 1970s, beginning a road trip to America.
In the first image from the movie, Johnny (who you may recognise from Channel 4 and Netflix sitcom Lovesick) rocks a long wig to transform into David’s younger self.
Joining Johnny on the cast will be Marc Maron as David’s publicist Ron Oberman, The Hunger Games star Jena Malone as his first wife Angie Jones, screenwriter Christopher Bell and director Gabriel Range.
The film will follow the singer at 24, as he embarks on his first American road trip in 1971 with his publicist as the world tries to come to terms with Ziggy Stardust before his big break.
David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust era spanned from 1972 until 1974, when the legendary singer was often seen with red hair, wearing space-age jumpsuits and spawned the iconic red and blue lightening flash face paint from his forehead to his right cheek.
Ziggy Stardust is arguably Bowie’s most iconic look, and the one which catapulted him to worldwide fame.
The singer, who died aged 69 in 2016 from liver cancer, captivated fans with his theatrical style as much as with his faultless vocals.
Stardust comes after hit music biopics Bohemian Rhapsody – which charted the formation and early years of Queen – and Rocketman, which gave fans a look at Elton John’s life story.
No release date has so far been set for Stardust.
