Sir Keir Starmer has revealed that he's had his middle name removed from his marriage certificate.

The Labour leader sat down with Piers Morgan for a special episode of Life Stories and the former Good Morning Britain host didn't waste much time in probing him on his personal life.

The 58-year-old revealed that his middle name is Rodney, and while he shares it with the Only Fools and Horses character, he's actually named after his own dad.

But he said on Life Stories: "I don't like it."

Taking it one step further, he explained he'd actually had it scratched from his marriage certificate, adding: "I have not used it for a very, very long time."

He went on: "I've been Keir Starmer for many years," but Piers pushed him on his middle name, even bringing in a story from his friends.

Laughing, he explained: "Just as we went away on honeymoon, they faked a document from Essex council saying, 'It's come to our attention that you've not used your real name on your marriage certificate, I regret to tell you that as a result of that your marriage is annulled, it's void.'"

Keir has been married to his wife Victoria since 2007, and they have two children.

He spoke of his own relationship with his father, who had been a tool maker.

"He had a real difficulty expressing his emotions," the politician explained.

"I only once remember him saying he was proud of me, when I passed the 11-plus. He came to my bedroom, 'I'm proud of you,' left… that's the way he was."

Keir said that his parents had been proud when he received his knighthood – and they made a real family affair of the special event.
