Kim Tate to steal Gabby's baby in Emmerdale

Emmerdale legend Kim Tate (Claire King) has been growing increasingly concerned about her health in the wake of her shock collapse.

The stalwart of the ITV soap lost consciousness several weeks ago, and subsequently revealed that she thinks she might have dementia.

‘Kim is definitely becoming more befuddled and discombobulated – love that word! – and she’s just feeling tired all the time,’ said actress Claire King. ‘[She’s] weak, and her mind is very confused – she keeps forgetting things. It’s getting worse and worse.

‘She is vulnerable, as she isn’t in control and this is highly unusual for her. She’s letting work slide and her family slide. She’s not thinking straight, she can’t come back with her comebacks like she usually does.

‘Kim is not telling anyone else, as she wants to keep it to herself until she know for sure what its that’s wrong. She doesn’t want anyone to think she’s losing track of stuff and going off-piece, but it’s fairy obvious to people she’s not the person she was.’

One resident who hasn’t realised that Kim isn’t quite herself, however, is Andrea (Anna Nightingale), and next week, she asks her former mother-in-law to babysit Millie!

‘Before Kim can explain herself, Andrea has walked out and left Millie with her!,’ Claire continued, ‘So she doesn’t really confirm that she can [look after her], but in her own way she’s half confirmed it as far as Andrea is concerned.’

Kim, left with little choice, does what’s asked of her, but Millie – who is unwell – becomes more and more poorly, however, leaving the Home Farm businesswoman incredibly concerned.

‘Millie drops her glass,’ Claire told us, ‘and Kim turns round to say: ‘I don’t suppose you know where the dustpan is?”. But Millie has disappeared, and as she looks she finds Millie on the floor! Her breathing is really bad.

‘She thinks: “Let’s get her through to the sitting room and settle her down, and call a doctor,” but before she can start to think about things, Kim starts to feel really ill herself.’

‘She starts feeling really dizzy and woozy, and she’s just left a voicemail with Andrea to say about Millie being ill, but before she can barely finish the voicemail, she just passes out in the hall. She’s out for quite a few minutes!

‘When she comes to, Jamie and Gabby are coming back from the scan and find her there. They realise that Millie is ill and Jamie rushes through to see her. Kim is just coming round at that point and is disoriented and doesn’t know what’s happened.’

Millie is in suffering from an allergic reaction, which leaves Jamie (Alexander Lincoln) incredibly concerned.

Andrea – upon hearing about what transpired – is livid with Kim, and wastes little time in returning to Home Farm to give her a piece of her mind.

‘All Kim does in her defence is say she’s had one glass of brandy which – in fairness is true,’ said Claire. ‘It’s not like she’s plastered! Andrea thinks she’s downed half a bottle because she’s so woozy., and it appears like she’s drunk. She’s not with it at all!

‘She does feel guilty [about what happened to Millie], because she wasn’t in total control – and Kim is always in control so it’s very disruptive for her!’

In the wake of this incident, Kim is punished, as Andrea puts her foot down – forbidding her from seeing Millie.

‘She’s absolutely heartbroken and totally gutted,’ added the actress. ‘Millie is her granddaughter and the love of her life.

‘She’ll plan to fight it and try and win round Andrea or Jamie in whatever way she can!

Viewers will know that – in spite of her fears – Kim is in not actually battling dementia. She is, however, being poisoned by a mystery enemy, who has been frequently lacing the brandy decanter from which she drinks!

The identity of this mystery poisoner has yet to be revealed, but Kim continues to struggle in the wake of Millie’s near-death experience, after she sets her sights on Gabby Thomas’ (Rosie Bentham) baby scan.

‘Gabby leaves her scan on the coffee table and goes off to make tea,’ Claire explains. ‘Kim opens it and calls it: “My baby!”, which is a bit spooky and scary!

‘She’s literally got her sights set on this baby being hers from the word get-go, and she’s going to control this baby’s life.

‘It’s vey odd for Gabby. She starts to worry about Kim as well.’
