At just 22 years old, Malia Obama just landed a job with one of Hollywood’s most in-demand writers’ rooms.
The eldest Obama daughter has been recruited to work with actor-producer Donald Glover on an upcoming Amazon series, sources told The Hollywood Reporter. Making headlines yesterday, Glover ended his contract with FX (the network that hosts his breakout series, Atlanta) and inked an eight-figure deal with Amazon instead. Glover is expected to create his own content channel for Prime Video that “will spotlight Glover’s work and other curated content on Amazon’s Prime Video hub,” according to THR.
Obama is reportedly lending her pen to a potential series titled Hive, which is believed to be about a Beyoncé-esque pop star character created by Watchmen producer Janine Nabers. The series would mark Obama’s first major project post-college, as the former First Daughter is set to graduate from Harvard University later this year.
No newbie when it comes to show business, however, Obama has shown interest in pursuing a career in Hollywood for a few years now, having previously interned on the set of HBO’s hit series Girls and worked as a production assistant on the Halle Berry CBS drama Extant. Further, according to THR, Obama landed an internship with The Weinstein Company in 2017.
Of course, intrigue in the production world runs in the family, considering her parents, former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama, signed a multiyear deal with Netflix and have a slew of upcoming productions set to release over the coming years.
