Ahead of the Strictly Come Dancing final, Giovanni Pernice and Rose Ayling-Ellis joined Janette Manrara on It Takes Two. The pair reflected on their journey while the EastEnders actress’ family paid tribute to the star. Rose broke down in tears but was overwhelmed by her professional partner’s sweet tribute after her family’s video message.
Janette asked: “I need to ask you both, I know you’ve often said it’s not about the scores for the two of you but what would it mean to lift that Glitterball tomorrow?”
Giovanni replied: “I think personally, I think Rose deserves the most beautiful thing in the world. She just realised she can do everything she wants.
“For us we’re just going there tomorrow night and enjoy ourselves but I think we made a big impact.
“You are the most beautiful thing that ever happened in my life so I’m very grateful, I’m very privileged to be the one to do the journey with you, so thank you.”
The pair hugged as both Rose and Giovanni wiped away tears after being emotional once more.
Janette asked: “Rose, what would it mean for you my love to win Strictly Come Dancing 2021 tomorrow?”
Rose replied: “I feel like, it would be really nice ending to all the hard work we both put in, all the hard work for me to get here in the first place before I had Strictly.
“It’s nice to show everyone, being different is what can make you win.”
Rose and Giovanni are the bookies favourite to lift the Glitterball Trophy and make Strictly history.
Following the withdrawal of AJ and Kai from Saturday night’s showdown, it’s Rose and Gio who are fancied to lift the glitterball trophy at just 1/9, with John and Johannes the 7/1 outsiders.
Jessica O’Reilly of Ladbrokes said: “It’s not over until the fat lady sings, but she’s certainly warming up in Elstree and the odds firmly suggest Rose and Gio will be crowned Strictly champions.”
Unfortunately, Rose will no longer be competing against AJ Odudu after she had to pull out due to injury.
Speaking on It Takes Two, AJ said: “It’s one of those things. At the beginning of the week, when the pain came on so acutely, they thought it was a fracture.
“So I was like, ‘Right as long as it’s not a fracture we’re good to go.’
“And I think that’s the thing with me and Kai, we will never give up and everyone has been looking after me so so well and I was like, ‘It’s not a fracture, we’re good to go,’ but they were like, ‘Yeah but you still can’t stand up.’”
AJ added: “It’s too risky, it’s too dangerous. But I want everyone to know I literally have done everything within my power to be on the dance floor.”
It is believed AJ will be in the studio to watch the live final and cheer on John and Rose.
Kai paid tribute to AJ in a statement, which read: “I want to thank AJ for being the absolute best partner I could ever have asked for in my first year on the show and I will always treasure the memories of dancing in the Strictly ballroom with her. “
Strictly Come Dancing Final airs Saturday on BBC One at 7.10pm.
