NCIS is currently on its winter hiatus, taking a break from CBS viewers’ screens before it returns in the New Year. Season 19 has been one to remember as Agent Leroy Gibbs (played by Mark Harmon) left his job to start a new life in Alaska. Now it is rumoured that another key character could soon be on his way out and there is a huge clue to support the theory following star Wilmer Valderrama’s latest announcement.

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from NCIS.

This week, Disney announced it would be bringing the classic tale of Zorro back to life with a live-action television series.

Fans of the story will probably best associate the role with Latino actor Antonio Banderas in the 1998 movie The Mask of Zorro and its sequel The Legend of Zorro.

The series is expected to be out on Disney Plus next year with actor Wilmer Valderrama stepping in to take on the role of the masked vigilante.

The NCIS star will also be serving as an executive producer on the series.

In a statement, Valderrama said: “Growing up, Zorro was the one character that made me, as a Latino, feel like I could be a hero.

“To be a part of the legacy for other children to know they too can be the heroes of their own stories is a dream come true.”

This isn’t the only project that Valderrama has signed up for away from his role as Nick Torres.

Earlier this year, CBS announced that he would also be an executive producer for its upcoming comedy Mexican Beverly Hills.

With two new projects he needs to work on, there are fears there will be less time for him to also film NCIS.

It is well known that the filming schedule for the drama is tough and has led some to leave the show because of it.

Actress Sasha Alexander who played Agent Kate Todd in the first two series explained to TV Guide that filming 17 hours a day was “hardcore”.

Gibbs actor Mark Harmon reduced his role ahead of season 19 before making his exit.

He stated in 2017 to The Talk that the “first day [of filming] was 21 hours”.

As of yet, there has been no confirmation that Valderrama is leaving NCIS.

But given how he is going to be very busy with both Zorro and Mexican Beverly Hills, it could be an option.

A change in casting has also led fans to believe it is nearing the actor’s time to go.

He originally joined NCIS alongside actress Emily Wickersham who played his colleague and love interest Agent Ellie Bishop.

In season 18, Bishop left as a “disgraced” agent, having supposedly leaked confidential information.

But this was just a ploy conducted by Odette Malone (Elayn Taylor) who asked her to be part of an undercover operation which meant her officially leaving NCIS.

Before they said their goodbyes, Torres and Bishop shared a kiss, seemingly confirming and ending their romance.

With Bishop now gone, will it soon be Torres’ time to move on to pastures new?

NCIS season 19 will continue on Monday, January 3, 2022, on CBS in America. A UK release date hasn’t been announced.
