Warning: This story contains spoilers for NCIS season 19, episode three.
The first two episodes of NCIS season 19 are already out and episode three will see Agent Gibbs (played by Mark Harmon) missing in action. Most of the team are going their separate ways during the most recent mission, but Gibbs’ fate remains unknown.
Will the team find Agent Gibbs before the serial killer closes in?
Episode two of season 19 finally gave fans some much-needed answers over the identity of the serial killer.
It also introduced viewers to Special Agent Alden Park (Gary Cole) for the first time, an FBI agent who was undercover and working on the same case as Gibbs’ team.
Eventually, the FBI and NCIS teams came together to work on the case, which proved to be a successful union.
The teams figured out the killer’s location through the use of a fitness app, tracking his jogging path.
Park was initially reluctant to work with Gibbs, as he was suspended and has already encountered the killer before.
They managed to work together though, leading them to chase down and confront the killer.
The killer escaped custody during a brief moment when Jessica Knight (Katrina Law) let her guard down.
Moving into episode three, the team is once again on the back foot, with the serial killer manipulating the chase.
It is soon revealed there is another body, but the only way they will find it is if they go with the killer to its location.
Gibbs and Park head out, but it soon becomes Gibbs has gone missing and the team needs to finds where he is.
Sadly, they are all separated, with Jessica undercover in a large manufacturing company.
Gibbs’ fate hangs in the balance, as the serial killer continues to close in and his team is clueless regarding his whereabouts.
It isn’t known if Gibbs will be found in this episode, or if he will be missing for some time from the series.
It is likely he will be absent for a number of episodes, especially as it was confirmed he would only appear in a handful ahead of season 19’s premiere.
Gibbs has played a significant role during the first two episodes of the season, but this looks set to change.
An unnamed source told TV Line Gibbs would make a limited appearance, with the number of episodes in the “low single digits”.
However, showrunner Steven D Binder clarified the situation, explaining while Gibbs’ role was smaller, he would still play a significant part in the season.
Binder explained: “Gibbs has been hunting down this serial killer, and he’s doing it alone.
“He’s cut off from his team… but in the beginning episodes, that’s going to change.”
This implies he will soon re-join the NCIS team, with Gibbs and Park set to be professional rivals for the remaining episodes.
NCIS season 19 is currently airing Mondays on CBS. A UK release date is unconfirmed.
