NXIVM sex cult victim breaks silence on branding, starvation and trafficking in trailer for true crime doc Seduced

AN NXIVM sex cult victim has broken their silence on branding, starvation and trafficking in a trailer for true crime documentary, Seduced.

The highly secretive group claimed to be a place for self-improvement before making headlines last year after some of its most high-profile members faced charges of sex trafficking racketeering and forced labour.

While it has already been the focus of HBO documentary, The Vow, a new programme features an in-depth chat with former member India Oxenberg, who joined NXIVM in 2011 believing it was a self-help group and business programme.

Seduced: Inside the NXIVM Cult sees India speak out for the first time about the abuse she received from the cult leaders, having been 'brainwashed' at 19 to join them.

India found herself part of the DOS, an inner group of women whose sole purpose was to fulfill the desires of the cult's leader, Keith Raniere, including having his initials branded onto her crotch.

He also controlled her diet, allowing her only 500 calories a day, and India tears up many times in the four-part documentary as she goes into detail about her harrowing experience.

Director Cecelia Peck said of the new documentary: "I had been targeted for recruitment by NXIVM, so the subject was of personal interest.

"In many ways, India could be anyone’s daughter. She was a young woman victimised by a serial predator, and I wanted to find out how this 19-year-old girl had become indoctrinated.

"There was a fearless quality to her inquiry that we were drawn to."

Thankfully, India was able to escape the cult in 2018 with the help of her mother, actress Catherine Oxenberg, and she went on to help the investigation that saw Raniere and his accomplice – Smallville actress Allison Mack – end up behind bars.

Raniere is due to be sentenced for his crimes later this month on October 27 after being found guilty last year of sexual exploitation of a child, sex trafficking, racketeering, possession of child pornography and identity theft.

Meanwhile Mack, who used her influence in Hollywood to sign others up to the sex trafficking ring, pleaded guilty to her crimes and was charged with a series of racketeering offences.

Seduced: Inside The NXIVM Cult launches on October 18 on Starzplay.
