Last week, Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield took a break away from hosting duties on This Morning, as Dermot O’Leary and Alison Hammond stepped in to replace them. Alison and Dermot usually present the Friday slot of the ITV programme after they took over from Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford earlier this year. The dynamic duo has become firm favourites on the show, and now, bookmakers believe they could become permanent presenters.

Paddy Power has claimed despite being a staple on This Morning, Holly and Phillip have could end up leaving the show with an odds-on chance of 5/6.

The bookmakers also claim their temporary stand-ins Dermot and Alison are the firm favourites to replace them.

Dermot has odds of 10/11 and Alison 11/8 to present permanently, with their chances of co-hosting together 4/1.

Other presenters in line to take over are Gino D’Acampo, Gabby Logan, Amanda Holden and Ben Shephard.

The Chase host Bradley Walsh is also in the running, while comedy duo Ant and Dec have odds of 25/1 of replacing Holly and Phillip.

A spokesperson for Paddy Power said: “Phillip Scofield and Holly Willoughby have been an integral part of the British public’s morning routines for years.

“So, it’s difficult to imagine the show without them. Who else could possibly pull off the hungover post-awards do show as well as they do?

“ITV bosses will have a tough job trying to find their replacements, but a job description of a loveable duo who randomly burst into fits of laughter on-screen shouldn’t be too hard to match.”

Earlier this year, Dermot and Alison replaced Eamonn and Ruth and took over their Friday slot.

However, Eammon and Ruth are still a staple on the programme and continue to present during the school holidays.

Although, last week, Alison and Dermot stepped in to host the show instead of the husband and wife duo.

Despite the bookmaker’s claims, there has been no public suggestion that Phillip or Holly are planning to leave The Morning.

In a recent interview, Holly and Phillip opened up about their friendship, as they admitted the pandemic had “changed” it.

Holly explained: “I think the thing about friendship is that as the years go on, they deepen and if you’re the best of friends there’s always another layer added and this has cemented a layer on.”

She continued: “And it will continue to grow, but I think this is definitely a big old foundation of a layer that has gone in.”

Phillip added: “God, we’ve always been mates and always been close mates and always seen each other socially.

“And then suddenly for the best part of a year, we’re getting ready for a two and a half-hour show in the morning on our own, doing our own make-up.

“The first time I did my own make-up – it was all left out for me – I got it all wrong and went on air looking like a mahogany wardrobe!”

You get things wrong, but we just sat and talked every morning,” Phillip explained.

“We talked about everything, what was going on in the world, what was happening in our heads, how we felt. There was a lot to talk about.”

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
