This Morning fans felt Phillip Schofield had "thrown shade" at Sky News presenter Kay Burley on Wednesday's show, after he made a cheeky joke about her recent controversy.
The broadcaster was forced to apologise after it emerged she'd hosted a 60th birthday party, breaking Tier-2 Covid restrictions.
On This Morning, agony aunt Deirdre Sanders appeared on the show, discussing an upcoming segment on "festive family feuds".
In advance of the call-in session, Deirdre revealed she'd heard of rule-breakers planning to welcome heaps of guests for Christmas dinner.
She said: "I heard of someone having 16 people around from five different households."
Deirdre then added that there are "really a lot of dilemmas going" on in the build-up to the festive season.
Back in the studio, Phil replied: "Someone's told you they've got 16 people coming round?"
When Deirdre confirmed that was the case, Phil asked: "It's not Kay Burley is it?"
Holly Willoughby then shot him a look, laughing briefly before they continued with the segment.
Taking to Twitter, viewers accused Phil of "throwing shade" after picking up on the cheeky remark on the show.
One said: "Ooh Philip shading Kay Burley…"
"Not Kay Burley is it" Philip throwing the shade this morning," said a second.
"‘Someone's told you they've got 16 people coming round, it's not Kay Burley is it?' Ouch, Philip," added a second.
According to reports, Burley will not return to Sky News until next year following the incident.
Burley has since apologised about the event in question, saying: "On Saturday night I was enjoying my 60th birthday at a Covid compliant restaurant.
"I am embarrassed to say that later in the evening I inadvertently broke the rules…
"I had been waiting for a taxi at 11pm to get home. Desperate for the loo I briefly popped into another restaurant to spend a penny. I can only apologise."
This Morning airs on weekdays at 10am on ITV.
