Piers Morgan exit sparks GMB ratings loss as 60,000 sign petition for his return

Good Morning Britain lost a staggering 80,000 viewers the day after Piers Morgan's shock departure.

The ITV show was left reeling after Piers sensationally quit after his controversial comments about Meghan Markle.

And to rub salt into a gaping wound, rival BBC Breakfast’s audience grew by a whopping 200,000 viewers.

Outspoken Piers is believed to have already been sounded out for a string of new job offers after his highly-publicised exit.

Presenter Andrew Neil offered him a job live on air for his new channel GB News – and it’s believed X Factor music mogul Simon Cowell is 'in talks' to sign Piers.

But there’s also growing petitions, one signed by more 65,000 supporters, that are desperate to see Piers reinstalled in the GMB hotseat.

Things had been going to swimmingly for GMB after their smash-hit Tuesday broadcast which was their biggest success to date.

But within the space of 24 hours, the show saw its audience plummet alarmingly to 1.21million, while BBC Breakfast roared to an average 1.42million viewers.

Shares in ITV also alarmingly plummeted in the wake of Piers’ resignation with an eye-watering £200million wiped off the company’s value.

Piers walked after refusing to apologise to the Duchess of Sussex for his comments doubting her “suicidal thoughts”, revealed in an exclusive interview with US chat show queen Oprah Winfrey.

And it is now been revealed that the Duchess made a formal complaint against Piers prior to what proved to his final show for the broadcaster.

Piers has since broken his silence following his departure, but in a tweet to his 7.8million followers stressed he had done his job and powered the ratings of the show.

“I had one goal when I joined @GMB – beat @BBCBreakfast in the ratings,” he said.

Tuesday’s GMB figures might have finally eclipsed BBC Breakfast, but the gap between the two shows is as narrow as it’s ever been.

Despite leaving the show Piers was seen in a jolly mood in a playful post by his wife, Celia Walden.

Celia shared an Instagram video by comedian Alexandra Haddow, which she cheekily captioned: “Piers Morgan’s wife waking up this morning.”

The video shows a woman waking up before showing her horror as she find her husband in bed next to her.
