The pressure of returning to work continued to get to Izzy Armstrong (Cherylee Houston) in Coronation Street tonight.
Izzy made a more permanent return to screens this week in a new storyline that looks at disabled people shielding and working remotely.
Izzy has been working from home for a while, but after failing to produce high quality work for Jo Lafoe, Carla (Alison King) said that if she didn’t return to Underworld, she would lose her job.
Still shielding, Izzy has been helped a number of times by her neighbour Fergus, who also happens to be Cherylee’s husband Toby Hadoke.
Tonight (July 6), Sarah (Tina O’Brien) gently suggested that Izzy should be back in the factory. However, knowing Sarah and Carla didn’t understand her situation, Izzy hung up the video call.
Trying to contact her again, Sarah’s call connected to Izzy’s computer, but Fergus answered instead, and told the boss the harsh reality Izzy has had to face over the last year.
‘Izzy fell and I had to assist’, he explained.
Fergus went on to explain that as he lived next door, he bubbled up with Izzy and began helping her, adding that the whole lockdown year for Izzy has involved ‘no care’ and ‘no outdoors’.
Fergus told Sarah that Izzy wasn’t ready to return to work, but when Izzy realised Fergus was on the call, she took over and told her boss she would resign.
Sarah and the team are clearly worried about Izzy, what can they do to help?
