Spoilers: Massive Christmas exit for Hollyoaks villain Edward

Edward Hutchinson is set to exit Hollyoaks in a dramatic and blockbuster Christmas storyline, Metro.co.uk can exclusively reveal.

The monstrous manipulator has been destroying Tony’s (Nick Pickard) life by making him both believe he is dying and that his wife Diane (Alex Fletcher) no longer loves him.

Things went even further when Diane stood up to Edward and he seemingly killed her, framing Tony in the process – but Verity (Eva O’Hara) is prepared to stand up to her villainous dad and expose him for what he is.

We can reveal that Joe McGann, who plays the evil gaslighter and the menace of the village, has filmed his final, electrifying scenes as Edward – and fans can look forward to seeing him get his just desserts.

But who will take him down? And will he be heading behind bars – or heading into a grave?

A source told Metro.co.uk: ‘Joe has finished filming with Hollyoaks but it’s fair to say he goes out with a bang – a character like that can only have a certain shelf life and fans are now ready for his comeuppance.

‘Edward has been a very divisive character but he has brought fantastic material for the Hutchinsons – Tony, Diane and Verity in particular – and when a final showdown ensues, his true colours are finally exposed.

‘Hollyoaks has deliberately made this a slow burn – both to make the end result a satisfying pay off and also to retain the magnificence of Joe’s captivating talent as a villain. But every story must have a conclusion.

‘But Edward’s ending is bound to provide new lines of story for those left behind. And it will be unforgettable drama!’

An official Hollyoaks spokesperson declined to comment, telling Metro.co.uk that they don’t comment on future storylines or staff contracts.
