Luba has been a professional dancer on Strictly Come Dancing since 2018 and has become a fan favourite of the show. Unfortunately, the Russian choreographer hasn’t been able to get close to the final with her celebrity partners as of yet. For 2021, she won’t get anywhere near the Glitterball trophy and here is everything you need to know about why she won’t be competing on the BBC show.
Why did Luba Mushtuk not get a celebrity partner on Strictly Come Dancing?
This year’s professional line-up has undergone a bit of a shake-up, with two cast members leaving and four newcomers joining.
Those who sat out of competing last year have been given the chance to showcase their talents, including Neil Jones and Graziano Di Prima.
Nancy Xu has also been given an opportunity to dance with a celebrity for the first time, despite joining the show in 2019.
Two of the new dancers, Kai Widdrington and Nikita Kuzmin, have also been given a space to dance with celebrities.
There has been no official announcement as to why Luba is not going to be taking part with a contestant but it is likely she was dropped to make room for more professionals who have previously had to take a back seat.
Ahead of the main show airing this year, it was reported Luba was being relegated to the group dances instead of competing.
The professional dancer will still be seen performing in the results show on Sunday nights and at the beginning of the main show on a Saturday.
Viewers will also see her cheering on her co-stars from the wings as she sits socially distanced from them in the accidence.
An unnamed source explained the decision, stating: “Neil [Jones] will be thrilled by this turnaround as he must have wondered whether his star would drastically fade without a famous face to be partnered with.”
Hasn’t quite enjoyed the same profile
“The fact he has got a pairing will seem like an even greater feat given that Luba has been denied one,” they continued.
“Although a highly regarded dancer, she hasn’t quite enjoyed the same profile as other pros on Strictly since she first joined two years ago,” the source told The Sun.
During the launch show on Saturday night, it wasn’t explained why Luba would be missing out but she wasn’t the one not to get a partner.
Newcomers Jowita Przystal and Cameron Lombard will also sit this series out as they get settled into the cast.
Who has Luba Mushtuk been partnered with in the past on Strictly Come Dancing?
The professional dancer has only been coupled with two celebrity partners in the past and her first was James Cracknell.
Known best for his Olympic rowing, the professional dancer had a task on her hands to turn him into a dancer.
Unfortunately, the sportsman was voted off early and became the second couple to be eliminated, with the pair coming 15th.
Next up, the dancer was partnered with a professional sportsman again in American football player Jason Bell.
This was in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic and despite their best efforts, the pair only made it to the first few weeks.
They secured 11th place in the competition but Luba has found success on the show before when she first joined.
In 2018, the professional dancer didn’t have a partner but she did feature in the few special episodes which aired.
She won the Children in Need special with singer Shane Lynch and she took part in the Christmas special with EastEnders star Jake Wood in the same year.
Strictly Come Dancing launch show is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
